Stella enjoys sitting on Paula’s lap!

On the first day of December, we had some of our brainiest residents take part in Cranium Crunches including Concentration, Wacky Wordies (and believe me, these are fun) and some trivia. Elsie Pelzman was so quick at finishing this song title: “On the Atchison, Topeka, and the…” Do you know it? I sure didn’t! In the afternoon, we celebrated our resident and nursing assistant of the month, John Graham and Aubrey Macy. A good crowd enjoyed our staff made creampuffs along with playing, “ShakeLoose aMemory.” Lynn Jennings got to keep a memory card, not only for attending a carnival, but another for attending a fair. Being a former city girl, I wondered, what’s the difference?

Also interesting was that Aubrey got a card to keep if she’d been to a high school reunion. This was interesting because she’d only been out of high school for one year. Roy Meyer got to keep that card since he got to attend a 40 year reunion. Which reunion might you be looking at?

Muriel Redolphy not only took the most cards in our impromptu game, but she also won Monday in blackout bingo as well.

Susan also had an opportunity to talk about memories during“Coffee and Conversation.” Residents reminisced about Christmas traditions including going to church, looking at lights and eating a big dinner. Harry Luinstra said it might be fun to go out and look at lights and Susan added it would also be nice to get some hot chocolate.Susan was vetoed when Elsie thought a better choice might be some Tom and Jerry’s, or Harry’s suggestion of some Hot Toddies.

Susan let me know, too, that residents weren’t so sure about attending a film I put on the schedule called, “Once I was a Beehive.” Rotten Tomatoes gave the film 4 out of 5 stars, a story about a 16 year old girl who spends her family vacations camping in the mountains who takes the memories for granted until she loses her father. That sounded interesting to me, but again, that’s not the first time I’ve misjudged something residents are going to like or dislike.

Our artists started part one of a three part series of “Wintery Night” painting.” I’d done a sample but need help from my artist friends like Leslie Kesler or Dave Wedum to help me with my trees. Perhaps our ladies will do a better job than I.

Susan got to run the sing-a-long with several of our folks while I cleaned the fish tank. Can’t understand why I couldn’t work on swapping that one with Susan. Some other pets who stopped by were Susan’s dog, Peanut, and Deb Lennox’s dog Stella pictured here with Paula.

We rounded out our week with a movie, “The Winning of Barbara Worth,” a silent film with Gary Cooper. If you’d like to take in a movie with us, or just share some memories, come on by.

We’ll see youhere.
