Description

Station 1 - game - TicTacToe - Set up 4x3 grid of hula hoops. Form 2 or 3 teams based on number of players. Game is played with just hands and colored pinnies. First player in each line skates up and places a pinnie into an empty hula hoop. They immediately skate back to their line and next player takes the next pinnie. Object of game is to get 3 in a row before the other teams. Once all 3 pinnies are in the grid, the next player up must move an existing pinnie to an open hula hoop. Focus of the drill - Quickness, processing at game speed, agility, communication
Station 2 - Skating - Balance drills - 2 foot deep knee bend (1 foot exp. players), 2 foot hop (1 foot exp.), 1 foot glide, single leg knee touch (left, right, exp.), down/down/up/up (exp.), russian knees (exp.)
Station 3 - Konsatinov drill - each player gets 3 pucks. When coach says go, they take the middle puck and move it outside one of the pucks. Next they move the new middle puck to the outside of the puck on the other side. They continue until coach says stop alternated each side. When coach says go this time, the players bring an outside puck inside the other two pucks to start contracting the line. (if this is too much for some players, just have the players perform a figure 8 stickhandling one puck around the other 2). Focus of this drill stickhandling and quick feet.

Station 4 - small area game - 3v3 (or 4v4 if 8 or less players). Add mandatory number of passes before shooting to make the game more or less challenging. Waiting players stand on the side and can be passed to or shoot, but they can't move. Focus of drill - anticipation, puck support, passing, shooting. Goaltenders work on over-shoulder checks, below goalline tracking, positioning.
Station 5 - Puckhandling medley - Player skates out of corner and moves the puck around the course.Less experienced players can just follow the course without pivots. More experienced players need to follow the drill as described in video below.

Station 6 - Stops - line up all players on the blue line and skate to the red line and stop. They skate back to the blue line and stop. Have them touch the red line 5 times for each set. Break large groups into 2 groups. Players always face the bleachers when stopping to work on stopping on both sides. 2 foot stops, 1 foot inside edge (exp.), 1 foot outside edge (exp.). Do with and without pucks. Less experienced players work can continue to work on 2 foot stops without pucks.
