STATEMENT OF SUCCESS

SUBJECT: Algebra Readiness TEACHER: Choe

BASIC OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

This course meets the California Mathematics Academic Content Standards. By the end of this Algebra Readiness course, successful students will be able to:

  1. Understand, identify and use the arithmetic properties of numbers.
  2. Understand and use rules of exponents.
  3. Use problem-solving strategies to analyze problems and arrive at appropriate solutions.
  4. Simplify expressions.
  5. Graph and interpret linear functions and inequalities.
  6. Understand probability and statistics as they apply to the real world.
  7. Solve linear equations and inequalities.
  8. Understand the meaning of absolute value.
  9. Solve multi-step problems, including word problems, involving rate or direct variation.
  10. Add, subtract, multiply and divide monomials and polynomials.
  11. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational expressions.
  12. Convert between fractions, decimals, and percents.
  13. Understand basic Geometry concepts.

COURSE SUPPLIES:

1.Recommended Materials to be Successful:

  1. 1 inch 3-ring binder with 5 dividers
  2. Binder paper
  3. Graph paper
  4. Pencils (Mechanical Pencils preferred)
  5. Spiral notebook for homework.

2.The binder will be used as a separate math notebook from all other subjects. All homework must be completed in pencil. A calculator is suggested, but not necessary. Calculators will be provided in class when needed.

3.Maintain a notebook with 5 labeled sections:

  1. Dailies
  2. Classwork
  3. Homework
  4. Tests & Quizzes
  5. Binder Paper

4.Homework will be given every lesson. Failure to complete homework may result in detention and eventually referral to the ZAP! Program. Refer to page 8 of the Timetracker. Students and parents can check daily assignments at:

5.A parent/guardian signature will be required on biweekly Homework Stampsheets.

GRADES:

1. ACADEMIC

All students work will be assessed and weighted as follows

60% -tests

20% -homework 10% - group tests

5% -notebook 5% - participation

The grading scale will be as follows:

90% - 100%A

80% - 89%B

70% - 79%C

60% - 69%D

BELOW 60%F

2. CITIZENSHIP

Grade is based on:

  1. Classroom behavior
  2. Classroom participation
  3. Timely Attendance

3. WORK HABITS

Grade is based on:

  1. Completion of homework, class work and participation.
  2. Number of missed homework assignments.

DISCIPLINE PROCEDURE

Please refer to the Timetracker,which will be distributed in the homeroom classes.Behavior problems will be dealt with in a timely manner. Students will receive one warning. After the first warning, detention will be assigned and the parent notified. Continual misbehavior will result in a referral to an administrator.

Aeries will be used in this class. Updates to grades and assignments will occur every couple of days. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me through e-mail or by phone.
