House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2002 Woodstock Union High School Wasps Division III championship football team
Offered by: Representatives Anderson of Woodstock, Adams of Hartland, Chen of Mendon, Reese of Pomfret and Sweaney of Windsor
Offered by: Senators Campbell, Dunne and Welch
Whereas, the Woodstock Union High School football Wasps started the 2002 season optimistic they could capture a third consecutive Division III championship, and
Whereas, after posting a record of 7-2 in the regular season and the playoffs, the Wasps faced the only Division III team to have defeated them all season, the Milton Yellowjackets, in the championship game, and
Whereas, despite Milton’s homefield advantage, the Wasps quickly proved they were worthy of the championship title, and
Whereas, Scott Coriell, Ian Kennedy, and Matt Healy, from the opening quarter, proved an essential scoring trio as they teamed up for multiple scoring successes, including a first period 58-yard touchdown drive, which in combination with the successful point after, put the Wasps ahead 7-0, and
Whereas, Wasp Ezra Lemieux’s interception of a Yellowjacket fumble on the ensuing kickoff enabled the threesome to repeat their justcompleted scoring performance and double Woodstock’s lead to 140, and
Whereas, despite Milton’s encroachment on Woodstock’s lead, which by the third quarter stood at 14-12, the Wasps’s late game offensive effort resulted in a 28-12 Woodstock victory, and
Whereas, the entire Wasp gridiron roster, comprising players Ian Kennedy, Kellan Lewis, Max Pilsmaker, Scott Corriell, Ezra Lemieux, Robert Doton, Jesse Robinson, Jake Olson, Zack Ralph, Michael Phillips, Alex Zonay, Kevin Gieseke, Phil Giampa, Matt Healy, Guy Rilleau, Jacob Cogswell, Reid Hersey, Matt Pickett, Reid Webster, Jon Chamberlain, John Blanchard, Zack Cook, Justin Quinn, Robby Debevoise, Tim Pickett, D’Allah Lafoon, James Chase, Abe Blanchard, Kyle Lewis, and Marcus Lambert, deserves credit for the Wasps’s third consecutive Division III football championship, and
Whereas, coach Jim McLaughlin and assistant coaches Charles Worrell, Ramsey Worrell, Zack Scott, and Keegan Moriarity provided essential guidance, and managers Aileen Faller’s, Peter Cronin’s, and Jamie Donath’s administrative assistance was always timely, and
Whereas, for the second year in a row, the team earned the James F. Howard Award for sportsmanship from the Vermont Football Officials Association, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
