H.C.R. 200

House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2005 Division I championship Mount Mansfield Union High School men’s lacrosse team

Offered by: Representatives Barnard of Richmond, Dostis of Waterbury, Frank of Underhill, Minter of Waterbury and Symington of Jericho

Whereas, in 2005, the third-seeded Cougars played to win and compiled an impressive 14-3 record through their penultimate game, earning the right to challenge the Middlebury Tigers in the championship at UVM’s Centennial Field, and

Whereas, the Tigers were hardly a typical opponent as a Middlebury team was playing in the Division I lacrosse final for the 13th consecutive year, and

Whereas, from the moment Cougar Colby Hill scored the game’s first goal, the spectators watched an intensively offensive contest that featured Mount Mansfield’s Greg Pinette end to end field run concluding in a goal, and

Whereas, at the first quarter’s conclusion, the Cougars held an 8-6 lead and remained in narrow command by an 11-10 margin at halftime, and

Whereas, the vigorous play of both teams through the second half left the Cougars in the lead throughout, and

Whereas, when the final whistle sounded, the Cougars were on top by a score of 21-16, having earned their first Division I lacrosse championship in the finest of styles, and

Whereas, this was an historic Vermont high school championship lacrosse contest on several fronts as the Cougars won their first title and scored the most points a team has ever earned, and both schools’ combined score was also a record setter, and

Whereas, this amazing team, consisting of players Ryan Allendorf, Josh Anderson, Ryan Barrett, Steve Bell, Tikki Bingham, Noah Brautigam, James Candon, Devin Collins, Tyler Doane, Jeremy Edwards, Jacob Hansell, Garrett Harvey, Colby Hill, Nathan Holt, Mike Kreigh, Zak Lance, Will Lavenberg, Caleb Leland, Liam Loughlin, Will Menning, Kevin Miller, Greg Pinette, Mason Rachampbell, David Reposa, Chris Riani, Anthony Savaglio, Robbie Scanlon, Andrew Schneider, Derek Soutiere, Ben Vogelzang, Jordan Ward, Sam Wheeler, and Nathan White, proved their worthiness to be crowned as the 2005 Division I champions, and

Whereas, Coach Bucky Brandt has imparted his extensive knowledge of lacrosse to his players with great success, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
