Dear School Principal:

The 73rd annual Nevada Junior Livestock Show will be held May 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th in Reno, Nevada. Nearly 300 4-H and FFA members from throughout Nevada will be participating in this year’s event. The youth participants have been involved with their livestock projects for several months already.

The purpose of the Nevada Junior Livestock Show is to provide an opportunity for the 4-H and FFA members to exhibit their livestock projects before the public, thus promoting and providing incentive for achieving excellence in livestock production skills and practices. Such achievement and participation in the Show encourages sportsmanship, leadership, citizenship, and responsibility of the highest order in the members.

Through the judging and placing of entries, modern livestock marketing standards are outlined and the education of members, leaders and parents regarding livestock industry trends is made possible, making us all better consumers.

The Nevada Junior Livestock Show Board views this program as one which is very educational and offers a unique opportunity to learn and develop greater life skills. Through participation in this event, young people also learn communication techniques, decision making and analytical skills.

Your student, ______, has entered into the 2013 Nevada Junior Livestock Show. It is the Nevada Junior Livestock Show Board’s hope that you will view this program as the educational experience it will be for the youth who participate and consider approving this as an excused absence from school.

If you have any questions or comments on this information, we encourage you to contact your county extension office, FFA advisor or the Nevada Junior Livestock Show Board office at 775-353-3610.

Thank you.

Sincerely

Matt McKinney, President

Nevada Junior Livestock Show Board
