MASS-DECA STATE ONLY EVENTS

STATE CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE COVER DESIGN EVENT
PURPOSE: To create a design to be used on our program cover at the State Career and Development Conference that successfully and creatively uses this year’s theme in a professional manner.
SPECIFICATIONS:
1. The following must be included in the artwork submitted to MASS-DECA:
-55th Massachusetts DECA or MASS-DECA Career Development Conference
- The DECA logo
- Dates & location of conference. (March 6-8, 2014 and Marriott Copley Hotel Boston, MA)
- Theme: “Excel in ATL”
- Name of chapter and student’s name, e-mail address, and phone number should be included on the back of entry.
2. *Artwork must be on disc or emailed as an attachment in a recognizable format in order to be reproduced for media purposes at the SCDC, if an electronic version is not provided there is no guarantee that it can be used on the big screen at the SCDC. A hard copy in color is also needed for voting purposes. See below.
3. Do NOT fold hard copy entry.
4. Do not use copyrighted logos or graphics
5. All entries must be 8.5” X 11”
6. All entries must be CAMERA READY It is recommended that artwork be computer generated or drawn in marker. Pencil does not copy well and will not be accepted.
7. The winner will be selected by the MASS-DECA State Action Team.

INCENTIVE
Winner earns one spot at the ICDC in the LeadershipAcademy or Senior Management Institute.
The logo artwork selected for the Massachusetts DECA Career Development Conference is used in a variety of formats from the design of conference program to the logo on our state conference video screens. Knowing this, we must receive your original work file without any compression so that our production company has access to your layered artwork. If designing in Photoshop, this would be a .psd file. If designing in some other program, this would be an unflattened or uncompressed file. Please also provide all the font files that were used. If your artwork was designed in Microsoft Word, then please provide the original .doc file, nothing else.
MASS-DECA STATE ONLY EVENTS
LARGEST CHAPTER PERCENTAGE INCREASE AWARD
DESCRIPTION
To recognize a chapter that has had the largest percentage increase in membership from the previous DECA school year.
SPECIFICATIONS
This award will be given to the chapter that has had the largest percentage increase in membership from the previous DECA year. Numbers will be taken from the final roster submitted for the 12-13 school year and compared to the final additions roster submitted for the 13-14 school year.
INCENTIVE
The chapter having the largest percentage increase will receive recognition at the State Career Development Conference with a recognition award.
LARGEST CHAPTER AWARD
DESCRIPTION
To recognize a chapter for their successful efforts in recruitment.
SPECIFICATIONS
This award will be given to the chapter that has the largest high school student membership in MASS-DECA. Numbers will be taken from the final roster submitted for the 13-14 school year.
INCENTIVE
The largest chapter will receive recognition at the State Career Development Conference with a recognition award.

Massachusetts DECA Video Challenge ‘A Year in DECA’
This year, Massachusetts DECA will be looking for a new promotional video. This video should be made with the purpose of promoting DECA and recruiting new members. The video should include the DECA year from Districts to States and the preparations involved for these competitions.
Specifications:
•Teams may be 1-2 members
•Videos should include the entire2013-14DECA year, do not include ICDC
•Any and all footage must be original video or photos shot within the 2013-2014 DECA year
•Filming actualDECA exams, role plays, or presentations is forbidden
•Videos should be posted to Youtube and posted to the Massachusetts DECA Facebook page
•Massachusetts DECA retains the rights on any submissions
•Videos must be submitted by March 19, 2014
Hints:
•Do not focus solely on your chapter
•Try to attend as many DECA events as possible ( Power Trip, MDA Events, Districts, & States). However you will not be penalized for missing any number of these.
•Film a fake role play, test or project presentation (don’t forget proper dress attire)
• Try to embody the fun aspects of DECA (remember it’s a promotional or recruitment video)
Incentive:
•The winning video will be selected by the 2013-14 State Action Team
•The winners will receive two (2) LDA or CMA spots for their chapter
•The video will also be shown at ICDC to all of Massachusetts DECA if possible
•The video link will be distributed to all Massachusetts DECA advisors to use at their discretion and posted on the MA DECA website

T-SHIRT DESIGN AWARD
PURPOSE: To create a design to be used on our T-shirt at the State or International Career Development Conference.
SPECIFICATIONS:
The following must be included in the design:
1.Massachusetts DECA or MASS-DECA
- The State Conference theme: “Excel in ATL”
- Name of student and chapter should also be included on the back of entry
4.All entries must be received in the MASS-DECA office by Feb. 3.

MASS-DECA STATE ONLY EVENTS

PIN DESIGN AWARD
PURPOSE: To create a design to be used as a trading pin at our International Conference
SPECIFICATIONS:
The following are suggested ideas for the design:
1. Massachusetts DECA or MASS-DECA
2Something that is significant or represents Massachusetts.
3. Name of student and chapter should also be included on the back of entry
4.A hard copy of the entry andan electronic version of the same entry must be received. All hard copy entries must be actual size of how it will be on the shirt.
Entries must be computer generated (clip art, print shop).
All artwork must be accompanied with a disc orsent as an attachment to an email to .
5.All entries must be: large and clear enough to scan, although the pin will be 1 ¼” in diameter.
- The winner will be selected by the State Action Team, who also reserves the right to not choose any artwork submitted for the pin design.

MASS-DECA STATE ONLY EVENTS
Due: Ongoing from September-January
Chapter News Reporter Event
PURPOSE: The Chapter News Reporter Event’s intent is to keep students involved in its own chapter’s news and by promoting chapter highlights to Massachusetts DECA.
SPECIFICATIONS:
- This is an individual event
- Chapter reporter must provide news reports on his/her chapter at least once every other month.
- The competition begins in September, articles must post in September or October, and then in November and January. Extra new reports are encouraged.
- News reports may be in the form of videos or news articles.
- Entry linksmust be posted to the MASS DECA Facebook page, as well as in a location where students from that chapter can see it by the last day of the respective month. Examples of locations are: Chapter’s DECA website or Facebook page, Community Patch, school website
- Video entries should be no longer than 3 minutes; articles should be no longer than 750 words. All entries must be professional and clean, articles should also be free of spelling or grammar mistakes, and videos should be edited.
- Filming at District Competitions is allowed but no competitive events (testing/ role plays) are to be filmed.
INCENTIVE : The winner will earn one LDA or CMA spot. The winner will be recognized at the opening session at the State Conference.
MASS-DECA STATE ONLY EVENTS
Due: Feb. 3
Wear do you DECA?
Purpose: Think you have what it takes to be MASS-DECA’s number one fan?
Massachusetts DECA would like to see its most spirited members step up! Starting in October, you and a group of DECA members can submit a photo of yourselves wearing your favorite DECA attire/gear. The State Action Team will then choose their favorite and announce the winners at the State Career Development Conference in Boston. The winning team will receive twoLDA or CMI spots to the 2014 International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia!
SPECIFICATIONS:
- Take a photo of yourself (or with other DECA members) wearing your favorite DECA attire/gear.
- If using the DECA diamond logo, be sure you are following the copyright rules (no distortion of logo, correct colors, etc)
- Post the photo via Facebook to the Massachusetts DECA page.
- More than 2 members may be in the photo, however only 2 LDA or CMA spots given
- Must be appropriate; proper school dress-code applies
- Deadline for photo submissions: February 3, 2014
