Collective Worship Outline for Spring 2 2016 -17 Value : Forgiveness

Start of worship prayer on board and by candle. Light candle

Leader: Faithful Father, Thank you that you forgive us when we are sorry
Response: Help us be strong to forgive others and ourselves just as Jesus taught us.

Expectations and non-negotiables:

  • All children and staff attend collective worship
  • Weekly whole class reflection time is timetabled and thoughts and prayers are recorded in the spiritual journey class book
  • The weekly question and character are looked at and thoughts and ideas are recorded in the class spiritual journal
  • The reflection area displays the weekly question, termly value, spiritual journal, candle, prayer / worry box, weekly vocabulary for term’s value and the school vision statement
  • The weekly question is shared with parents on the weekly homework sheet

Theme: Why is it hard to forgive?
QN Who do I need to forgive?
Activity: make a daisy chain for your class - why do you think this is the flower of forgiveness
Quote: do not let the sun go down on your anger / Look at the ideas children had from last week’s activity
The Wooden Bowl – why did they get angry with grandad?
What stopped them? What changed and helped them?
Walking prayer time – who do I need to forgive over and over again? With each step try and think of someone you would like to be more patient with…. / The Parable of the pharisee and the tax collector

Pop the balloon prayer – have five balloons; collect reasons why children may want forgiveness from god – put on the balloons – then pop them. God gives us a fresh start – let’s do the same to others ….. / ASH Wednesday / Singing Worship / Celebration

Theme:forgiveness matters
QN: What does it feel like to forgive and be forgiven? How does it change you?
Activity: Listen to the song Amazing Grace and write your own top ten tips for forgiveness.
Quote: to be forgiven is to experience a release… a burden rolling away / Forgiveness matter story (Collective worship folder)
Prayer – fizzy forgiveness - show water and tablet and then explain how we can put the tablet in the water – it can be the process of dissolving anger and showing forgiveness and the anger dissolving and leaving which leads to a lovely fizzy drink.

Question: What’s my attitude towards forgiveness?

Give children a glass to hold – ask them how heavy it is and how they feel about holding it… what if I say you have to hold it for the next few mins, hours, days… get heavier and you get grumpier the same with holding a grudge / God always forgives or Omar story (both are in the CW folder.
