Star Student of the Week

Dear Parents,

Each week in C-5 we will have a Star Student of the Week. The student will get to share special pictures and objects. You can help your Star Student with preparing a picture collage on a poster of family, pets, friends, and hobbies, etc. The picture collage will be displayed for the week that your child is the Star Student. On Friday, your child will talk about their picture collage with the class and get to answer questions from their friends. The Star Student may also bring in four objects (toys, books, trophies, etc.) and a Guesstimation bag that he/she would like to share with the class. If you would like, you can send in treats for the class on Friday- sharing day. Just remember we are a no peanuts/tree nuts classroom. Thank you and enjoy working on your Star Student of the Week poster.

Sincerely,

Ms. Acquaviva, Mrs. Friedman, & Mrs. Glidden

Timeline for Star Student:

Friday: (you will be given the poster board and directions)

Thursday: Make-up day for objects and Guesstimation

Guesstimation Jar

The Guesstimation Jar is an optional activity for your Star of the Week. If you would like to participate, please help your child pick a number (between 35-100) of small items (same type of item). Then count out the items with your child and send them to school in a zip lock bag. We will transfer the item into the Guesstimation Jar.

Please tell your child to not tell anyone how many items are in the bag/jar, not even their best buddy! Our class will estimate the number of items in the jar on Wednesday of your child’s special week. *You can send this in with your child on Monday and it will be on display during their special week. We will be sharing the items with the whole class after estimating and counting.

Sample items suggestions:

Pennies Erasers Beads Buttons

Tiny toys Balloons Silly Bands Dice

Marbles Sea Shells Jacks Balls

*Healthy Non-peanut Snack (pretzels, goldfish, cheerios, cheese its, etc)

Have fun with this activity and thanks for making your child’s week special!
