Week of February 23rd

  • Sign up to participate.
  • Engage in strategy discussion.

Week of March 2nd

APTA / Member Organizations
  • APTA to organize CEO/GM radio interview tour for upcoming Legislative Conference. During radio tour members will discuss ridership, need for long-term bill and Stand up 4 Transportation day.
  • Reach out to members to schedule taped video interviews that will be conducted at the Legislative conference. In the interviews members will discuss their participation in Stand up 4 Transportation. APTA will use portions of each video interview as media follow up and for social media content.
  • Draft and distribute advisory to radio outlets ahead of conference.
  • APTA to update petitions and letters for Voices for Public Transportation participants.
  • APTA to focus on possible outreach in targeted districts that do not already have events.
  • APTA will begin targeted Capitol Hill advertising reach.
  • APTA to provide research for review by members regarding local impact of no federal funding for public transit. Research to be used on event day.

Week of March 9 (APTA’s Legislative Conference, Washington, DC)

During APTA’s Legislative Conference, APTA will leverage the promotion of its ridership report in promoting the need for a long-term transportation bill and the upcoming StandUp4 Transportation Day on April 9.

APTA / Member Organizations
  • Media outreach for release of the ridership report.
  • Work with member GM/CEOs as they participate in live and recorded radio interviews during the Legislative conference.
  • Provide talking points in all briefing documents for GM/CEOs.
  • Develop and distribute audio news release on ridership.
  • Use pop-up booth for Stand Up For Transportation, where information and promotional materials for the day will be available.
  • Conduct taped video interviews with APTA members who plan to participate in Stand Up For Transportation day.
  • Create and distribute an infographic for APTA and member use about the importance of investment in public transportation.

Weekly Countdown Graphics
Develop a series of graphics in the form of a ticking clock and provide to members. Each week leading up to the expiration of MAP-21, the clock will display different stats and will tick closer to 12, signaling the expiration of federal funding for public transportation. Publish graphic on PT.org, distribute via APTA’s social media platforms and pitch to Beltway and national trade press.
  • This week’s stat: In 2013, Americans took 10.7 billion trips on public transportation, the highest annual ridership number in 57 years. (Use updated ridership number)
Transit advocate Stories
APTA will identify stories across the nation, providing members with content to use locally. Additionally, APTA will conduct outreach to relevant parties. / Weekly Countdown Graphics

During this week, APTA will issue a press release announcing the launch of this national advocacy and will provide it to its supporting member organizations.

Week of April 6 (Stand Up For Transportation Day on April 9)

APTA / Member Organizations
National Day-Of Outreach (April 9)
On April 9, APTA and its supporting member organizations will conduct national outreach promoting Stand Up For Transportation Day.
APTA will highlight a report on the impact the federal program has on our nationwide public transportation infrastructure. The report will include new data that examines the impact of not having a federal funding program for public transit systems. In the report APTA will display findings nationally and by metro area.
A highlight of the report is a user-friendly interactive website that will include data about the impact of projects on local communities across the nation.
APTA will distribute a press release with topline findings and will conduct media outreach to targeted national and Beltway reporters with the data. This may include a media call for interested reporters.
APTA will also highlight specific events happening in local communities. In addition APTA will distribute an audio release on this day.

On April 9,members will work in conjunction with their partners in conducting local outreach promoting Stand Up For Transportation Day. Members outreach can promote specific events happening in each member’s local communities.
Member organizations will have the opportunity to leverage local data from APTA’s report on the impact of no federal funding for public transit.
Using the press release template APTA provided, members can promote local topline findings amongst local media and as well as use the data on their social media platforms.

APTA will use the stats and findings to create a process-based infographic.
