STAFF HEALTH AND WELLBEING

PHILOSOPHY: Corryong College acknowledges the importance of the health and well-being of all staff. A supportive, developmental atmosphere in which people feel valued, respected, confident and trusted is seen as essential for high staff morale and consequently for the benefit of the students and parents. Feedback is an integral process in the college, recognising and acting on the needs of staff and enabling professional and personal growth and improvement.

GUIDELINES:

1.Staff health and wellbeing encompasses the physical, social, professional, psychological, emotional, spiritual, family and economic well-being of every individual.

2.Staff will be encouraged to develop their full professional and personal potential in a caring collegiate community and to develop a sense of shared responsibility for health and wellbeing issues.

3.The Staff Health and Wellbeing policy is closely linked to the College's Professional Development, Equal Opportunity and Sexual Harassment policies.

4.The right of individuals to privacy and confidentiality must be respected.

5.All staff will be provided with the opportunity to give and receive regular feedback. Feedback is a process to enable self-examination and for cultivating change and growth (Daniel Goleman, Working with Emotional Intelligence, p.263). It is through feedback that we can learn to “see ourselves as others see us”. Giving feedback is a verbal or non-verbal process through which an individual lets others know his/her perceptions and feelings about their behaviour. Seeking feedback is asking for others’ perceptions and feelings about your own behaviour.

6.Staff will be provided with information relating to the various sources of support and professional development for the health and wellbeing of individuals and the whole staff.

IMPLEMENTATION:

1.The Principal and Leadership Team will be responsible for addressing health and wellbeing issues for all staff - teaching and non-teaching.

2.The annual opinion survey results will be analysed by the Principal and Leadership Teams to consider necessary action. Staff health and wellbeing issues may also be discussed at staff meetings.

3.Information on Staff Health and Wellbeing will be included in the Staff Handbook. The information will be prepared by the Principal and Leadership Team.

4.All staff, including casual relief teachers, short term contract and trainee teachers, will be provided with a Policy Manual and a Staff Handbook. Victorian Essential Learning Standards (AusVELS) documents and reporting procedures will be provided to all teachers for their teaching areas. The preparation of the Policy Manual is the responsibility of the Principal; the Staff Handbook of the Assistant Principal; and the AusVELS documents of the Domain Area Team Leaders, in conjunction with the Curriculum Team Leader.

5.Action to help promote positive morale among staff will include acknowledgement in a variety of ways agreed to by the Leadership Team. An agreed system of Rewards and Recognition may be included in the Staff Handbook.

6.Professional development will be provided for all staff in giving and receiving feedback. Staff are encouraged to give and receive feedback from colleagues at any time. Also the Principal and Assistant Principal will meet with the Leading Teachers and Business Manager at least twice a term.
