/ Illinois Hardest Hit Program - temporary mortgage payment assistance to households that are struggling with income loss due to unemployment or underemployment, but are working to regain sufficient income to keep their home. Two types - Reinstatement assistance - where mortgage arrearages, fees, and penalties are paid in full up to cap amount. Monthly mortgage payment assistance -100% of payment made to loan servicer for up to 18 months while the homeowner makes contribution payments to the IHDA. Maximum benefit is $25K - which is technically a 10 year forgivable loan. / Must be experiencing income loss or experienced one in past that caused them to get behind on their mortgage payments, must have a mortgage you are behind on. Must be single family home, or 1 unit condo, or mobile home attached to ground owned by applicant(s), Can't have any mortgage related felonies, homeowner must agree to fixed or ARM, must be primary residence in IL.

/ Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) - provides temporary financial assistance for pregnant women and families with one or more dependent children. TANF provides financial assistance to help pay for food, shelter, utilities, and expenses other than medical. Once you get TANF - you get cash for basic needs, transitional services to help you become independent, screened for substance abuse, domestic abuse, mental health - referrals made, medical assistance card - MediPlan, SNAP (food stamps), and possibly other services. / Pregnant or have at least 1 child under 19 who lives with them, live in IL, US citizen or be here legally, and develop plan to become self-sufficient and follow it. 60 months maximum person can be on TANF, must work 30 hr plus a week – additional rules apply.
