St. Ursula Academy Announces Addition

of Grade Six for Fall 2012

St. Ursula Academy, the oldest female Catholic school in Toledo, which currently serves grades 7-12, proudly announces that it will expand to serve grade six in the fall of 2012. Board President, Scott Savage stated, “Growing St. Ursula Academy by offering sixth grade and expanding the current seventh and eighth grade is an exciting step in advancing the mission of the school.”

St. Ursula Academy began serving grades seven and eight this fall on its campus located at 4025 Indian Road in Toledo. The addition of grade six in the fall of 2012 will complete the middle school expansion. School President, Sr. Mary Kay Homan, OP, stated, “Our new middle school has been so successful that we’ve received numerous requests to add a sixth grade. Our campus allows for the space to serve more students and renovations are planned to accommodate the needs for our continued growth.”
According to Principal, Kim Sofo, “Girls learn differently than boys and St. Ursula has become an expert in engaging young women to meet their full potential. This begins with nurturing spiritual growth and expands to our curriculum that goes above and beyond to keep young girls interested and challenged. Age-appropriate methodology, small class sizes, exploratory project-based instruction, advanced learning opportunities, and expert faculty provide the best foundation for success, creating a springboard for accelerated academics in the high school.”

Principal Sofo pointed out, “Experiences outside the classroom foster new and diverse interests. Currently, our middle school Jr. STEM Club is partnering with St. John’s Jesuit Academy’s Lego Robotics Team. The students meet to research and collaborate in preparation for upcoming competitions.”

In addition, spiritual growth and faith formation are important aspects of the mission. Campus Ministry and Theology offer service projects, retreats, and class liturgies as opportunities for middle school students to deepen their individual faith and acceptance of others.

Principal Sofo added, “The continued growth of St. Ursula Academy is very telling of our ‘I WILL SERVE’ Ursuline value as we expand to serve more young women in our community. The opportunities that surround this endeavor are endless. We are very excited about moving forward and now serving grade six.”

St. Ursula Academy will host an Open House for grades 6-12 on Sunday, November 13, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Full details about middle school admissions, including grade six, will be available at that time. Inquiries should be directed toMrs. Toni Kelly, Director of Admissions, at 419-329-2209.
