THE SYMBOLS OF THE RESURRECTION

The Grave Clothes

This reminds us of the cloth in which they wrapped the body of Jesus. On Easter morning it was found empty, lying in the tomb where Christ’s body had been placed.

Alleluia! Christ is Risen ~ Christ is Risen indeed!

The Fragrant Oil

This fragrance reminds us that very early on Easter Day some women came to the tomb to prepare Jesus’ body for proper burial. The women were the first to hear of Jesus’ resurrection.

Alleluia! Christ is Risen ~ Christ is Risen indeed!

The Stone

This stone reminds us that on the resurrection morning; the stone which sealed the tomb was rolled away.

Alleluia! Christ is Risen ~ Christ is Risen indeed!

The Bread

This bread reminds us that on the first Easter evening, Jesus walked and talked with two of his followers on the road to Emmaus. It was not until he broke the bread with them that they recognised who he was.

Alleluia! Christ is Risen ~ Christ is Risen indeed!

The Wine

This wine, representing Christ’s blood, helps us to remember that Jesus died for us.

Alleluia! Christ is Risen ~ Christ is Risen indeed!

The Cross

The cross you see is an empty cross. Jesus is not dead. He is risen. Alleluia! Christ is Risen ~ Christ is Risen indeed!

The Candle

This candle reminds us that Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

Alleluia! Christ is Risen ~ Christ is Risen indeed!

PRAYER OF THE DAY

MC

Glorious Lord of life, by the mighty resurrection of your Son you overcame the old order of sin and death to make all things new in him: grant that we, who celebrate with joy Christ's rising from the dead, my be raised from the death of sin to the life of righteousness; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD All sit

FIRST READING

A reading from the Book of Acts 10.34 - 43

Then Peter began to speak to them: ‘I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.’

Hear the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

THE EASTER ANTHEM -

I Christ our Passover is | sacrificed | for us

therefore | let us | keep the |feast;

2 Not with the old leaven,

nor with the leaven of | malice and | wickedness

but with the unleavened | bread • of sin | cerity and | truth.

3 Christ being raised from the dead | dieth no | more

death hath | no more do | minion | over him.

4 For in that he died, he died unto | sin | once

but in that he liveth, he | liveth | unto | God.

5 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead in | deed • unto |

sin

but alive unto God, through | Jesus | Christ our | Lord.

6 Christ is | risen • from the | dead *

and become the | first-fruits of | them that | slept.

7 For since by | man came | death

by man came also the resur | rection | of the | dead.

8 For as in | Adam all | die

even so in Christ shall | all be | made a | live.

SECOND READING

A reading from the letter to the Colossians 3.1 - 4

So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

Hear the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Cantor

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Christ has become our paschal sacrifice;

let us feast with joy in the Lord.

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

GOSPEL

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

A reading from the holy gospel according to Matthew 28. 1 - 10

Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ.

After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, “He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.” This is my message for you.’ So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them and said, ‘Greetings!’ And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshipped him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.’

This is the gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ

SERMON -Fr Neil Vearing

The Creed

MC

Let us together affirm the faith of the Church: (All stand)

We believe in one God,

the Father, the almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God,

eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

of one being with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation

he came down from heaven,

was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary

and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge

the living and the dead

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son

is worshipped and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism

for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE LORDS PRAYER

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins as we forgive those

who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial

and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours,

now and for ever. Amen

GOD’S BLESSING

Celebrant

Almighty God, who redeemed us through the resurrection of Christ, who raised us to newness of life through the waters of baptism, and has brought us out of slavery into everlasting freedom, give you joy and peace in faith and bring you into your eternal inheritance; and the  blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be among you and remain with you always. Amen.
