St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Pre-EYC Retreat

April 14-15, 2018

BlueJayPointCountyPark

Hello Parents!!!

I am so excited to announce the details about our annual Spring Pre-EYC Retreat. This year we will be staying at Blue Jay Point County Park-the same place we have enjoyed the last couple of years. They have a wonderful overnight lodge facility that sleeps 40 people (20 men, 20 women) in bunks. It is a large heated/cooled, fully electrical, running water facility-my favorite type of “camping.” The cost per camper is $30.00. Scholarships are available, please just ask. This covers the cost of food (snacks, dinner and breakfast) and lodging for one night. Campers are asked to bring a fully disposable, but environmentally friendly lunch for Saturday.

Chaperones-We will need parent assistance for our retreat. I would like to keep the ratio of 1 parent per group of 4/5 children. I already have myself, Christa Magee and Mike Tannercommitted as chaperones. So, we will need at least 2 more parents-preferably 2 Dads! Chaperone needs will fluctuate based on the response. Please contact me if you are interested in chaperoning. All chaperones will be subjected to a background check.

Who can go? I am hoping that everyone who would like to attend will be able to go. While the facility holds a maximum of 40 people, it means 20 women and 20 men. We might be able to do 22 and 18 split, but that would be about all the flexibility due to fire code. But, everyone who wants to go should be able to go!

A bit of information about the Lodge…

The Blue Jay Lodge is a modern, overnight facility (heated and air conditioned) consisting of a large common room (where we will meet and eat), well stocked kitchen, and two bunkrooms with adjoining bathrooms. Groups are responsible for providing and cooking their own meals, which we will do!

The Blue Jay Lodge is located within BlueJayPointCountyPark. The park is open 8am until sunset, seven days a week. After the park closes-it is ours for the night! Once the park closes we are settled-no one can come or go (except for emergencies of course).

Important Telephone Numbers:

It was required that I attend an orientation prior to our utilization of this facility. It is such a great place, full of activities to choose from and so many areas to explore. The children are going to have a wonderful time!

What will we be doing? We will be “Celebrating God’s Creation” all through the park. We will be focusing on environmental education as we explore all that God has created for us to preserve and protect! We will also be forming relationships and friendships-and having fun too!

Children will need to be dropped off at 10am on April 14, 2018at the Blue Jay Point Education Center. It will take approximately 30-45 minutes to get to Blue Jay Point from Cary. Children will need to be picked up promptly at 10am on April 15, 2018 at the Blue Jay Point Lodge (just down the road from the Blue Jay Point Education Center). Carpools are great for dropoff and pickup, but I will not be coordinating transportation.
