Novena Prayer To Our Lady of Knock

Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland, you gave hope to your people

in a time of distress, and comforted them in sorrow.

You have inspired countless pilgrims to pray with confidence

to your Divine Son, remembering His promise,

‘Ask and you shall receive; seek and you shall find.’

Help me to remember that we are all Pilgrims on the road to Heaven.

Fill me with love & concern for my brothers & sisters in Christ,

especially those who live with me.

Teach me how to take part ever more reverently in the Holy Mass.

Comfort me when I am sick, lonely or depressed.

Pray for me now & at the hour of my death. Amen

Thought for the Day

‘ The best way to cheer yourself up

Is to try to cheer somebody else up ’

For people who are Coeliac or for anybody who cannot receive ‘regular’ Communion please note that during Communion there are ‘gluten free’ consecrated Hosts left on a table the ‘Sacred Heart’ Statue side in Islandeady & on the Baptism Font in Glenisland.

The Presbytery Glenisland and St Aidans Islandeady are wonderful facilities which are available for FREE for all Church & Community occasions – after Mass or anytime. Catering and refreshments can be arranged by family, neighbours or community. All we ask is that you please leave these facilities as you find them – clean & tidy. Thank You.

We ask also that Catering would be modest and simple. This facility is in a Church setting & for the sake also of protecting carpet & chairs please NO egg sandwiches, salad sandwiches, cream or jam buns etc. Confine food to biscuits, buns, brack, simple sandwiches or bread/cake that doesn’t fall apart. Just use common sense. Remember that most people have a mug in one hand & a bit of ‘food’ in the other hand. Thank You.

*

The PP in Islandeady-Glenisland would be happier with no offering/stipend for Mass & instead continue with the financial support of your Priest with your contributions in the four Priests collections each year. Note that Church Canon Law clearly states a Priest can only keep one Stipend or Offering for a Mass. With a number of Intentions for the same Mass the extra Offerings are sent to Priests working in ‘The Missions’ as already happens with money for Mass Cards - thus providing financial support for Priests working there.

RUAILLE BUAILLE IN JACK’S OLD COTTAGE SUNDAY AUGUST 21st

Invitation to get down and dirty at Jack’s. Roll up those sleeves! Brace yourself for the task! if it could be done by your grandparents what’s keeping you?

Young people, did you think you were getting away free? You are going to try your hand at many of the games that were popular in the days whengamesmeant exercising more than your thumbs!

Q. What has Islandeady Heritage Group up its sleeve now?

A. A whole afternoon of fun as they would have had in the 1920’s when the cottage first saw the light of day.

Men, try your skill at the different tasks we have

planned. Pit your skill against your neighbour. Not as simple as it looks, maybe!

Ladies, if Grandma could do these jobs without gadgets why not yourself? A bit of competition no harm here too!

The children aren’t forgotten either. We’ll show you how it was done in Granda’s time, what games he played and what tricks he might have got up to. Shhhh!

We have a video presentation you might be interested in!

This is only a slight flavour of what we have in store for you!

We hope you’ll go home with many good memories of the day and an appreciation of what it meant to be alive 100 years ago.
