Roles and Responsibilities

A. Achievement of Students

·  To have high expectations of students and be committed to ensuring that they can reach their full potential.

·  To be accountable for the performance of students you teach.

·  To know the assessment requirements and arrangements including reports and external examinations.

·  To ensure that data and other student information is used effectively to inform and improve teaching and learning [including SEN].

·  To support students so that they can be reflective and are able to identify how they can improve.

B. Teaching Quality

·  To teach challenging, well-organised, engaging and motivating lessons.

·  To be a role model exemplifying the highest standards of teaching practice.

·  To have a secure knowledge and understanding of your subject and ensure that best practice is sought and integrated into teaching and learning.

·  To demonstrate a high level of musicianship.

·  To have a creative and constructively critical approach to innovation and be prepared to adapt your practice.

·  To deliver all timetabled lessons at the pre-arranged times, and to re-organise them in conjunction with the Senior Visiting Music Teacher in the case of your absence.

C. Leadership and Management

·  To adopt high standards of behaviour in your professional role.

·  To contribute to the ongoing development of the department under the direction of the Director of Music.

·  To participate fully in the School’s extensive programme of concerts and recitals.

·  To be committed to collaboration and co-operative working where appropriate.

·  To understand the role of the Director of Music, Assistant Director of Music and Senior Visiting Music Teacher and act upon advice and feedback.

·  To keep up-to-date with departmental and whole-school developments and information, and maintain an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of your professional duties.

·  To understand the roles of colleagues with specific responsibilities for groups of learners [eg SENCO, Heads of School].

·  To evaluate your performance and be committed to your own professional development.

D. Liaison with Holy Trinity

·  To book School rehearsal and service times with Holy Trinity and the Town Trust (for the Guild Chapel).

·  To develop the current links between the School and the Choir of Holy Trinity by actively encouraging the involvement of students as choristers.

·  To liaise between the Deputy Headmaster (Pastoral) and Holy Trinity Ministry Team to ensure that appropriate readings are chosen for the School’s chapel services on a termly basis.

·  To liaise between the Head of Sixth Form and Holy Trinity Ministry Team to promote Sixth Formers’ involvement in Holy Trinity’s programme of community service.

E. Behaviour and Safety

·  To establish a safe and purposeful learning environment.

·  To encourage high standards of personal achievement, appearance and conduct in all students.

·  To take account of diversity and promote equality and inclusion.

·  To manage student behaviour constructively in line with the School’s Behaviour Policy.

·  To know how to identify potential child abuse or neglect and follow safeguarding procedures.

·  To know the legal requirements and use the local arrangements relating to the safeguarding of children.

·  To take responsibility for other areas as may reasonably be requested by the Headmaster.
