Title: School and Families Worker

Employed By: St Michaels and All Angels Church PCC

Accountable to: St Michaels and All Angels Church PCC

Line Management: Rev. Andy Griffiths

Responsible For: This post does not have any direct line management responsibilities but will be building and supporting a varied team of volunteers

Base: St Michaels and All Angels Church, Margaretting Road, Galleywood Essex CM2 8PW

Hours: 21 hours per week.There may be the option of a term time only contract at 28 hours per week. Days are negotiable but will include Sunday morning services at least twice a month.

Annual leave: 4 weeks per year

Salary: £9,50 p/h

Start Date: Sept 2017

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to:

1.Schools work

This will involve running two weekly groups; a Christian lunch club for year 6 and a drop in session for key stage 2. Providing one to one mentoring sessions for children identified by the school as requiring extra support, leading assemblies on a rota with clergy and organising special events such as prayer spaces. The post holder will also build on strong relationships with the staff and offer other support as required.

2.Outreach to children and families on the fringe of church and in the wider community. In recent years the Children’s Worker has become part of the core support team for vulnerable families in our community, working closely with partner organisations such as the Children’s Centre, Health Visitors and the schools. The successful applicant will be expected to continue to build on this work with the support of the staff team and volunteers.

The post holder will be asked to support the volunteers on the St Michael’s baptism preparation teamand to build relationships with families both before and after baptism, helping to connect them with others and become integrated into the church family. This will include Messy Church, in which the post holder will take a lead supported by a strong existing team.

3.There is an option, if the post holder has the passion and skills, to become involved in all age worship on a Sunday morning, including music.

The role will also involve

  • Purchasing and maintaining equipment and resources and monitoring the budget.
  • Communicating with and coordinating the team of volunteers.
  • Managing all relevant paperwork including consent forms, risk assessments and budget forms.
  • Working with the Child Protection Officer to ensure all safeguarding requirements are met.
  • To compile project reports and take part in regular supervision

The post holder will be expected to work closely with the Staff Team and PCC and attend staff meetings as requested.
