What is Family Promise? What can you do to help?
St. Philip’s Lutheran Church has been hosting for about 3 years. We are blessed with ample room to host our guests but we are always in need of caring volunteers who are able to help us host the families. We don’t fix their problems; we just provide a safe, comfortable, and friendly place. We’re looking for St. Michael’s help to cover each of our volunteer roles! St. Philip’s next Host Week is February 9th – February 16th!!! If you are interested in participating with Family Promise, please contact Brandon and Karen Zinnato at (302) 229-6032 or . Volunteers are requested to attend an orientation on Sunday January 26th starting at 12:30 pm in St. Phillip’s hall.

Ancient Faith Today with Kevin Allen will host Orthodox priest Fr. John Parker, for a discussion of “How Does the Orthodox Church Reclaim Its Tradition of Evangelism?” live this Sunday, January 26, at 8 pm According to the foremost contemporary Orthodox missionary (Archbishop Anastasios of Albania), “mission is part of the Church’s genetic makeup.” But there has been a long period of forgetfulness and even ignorance of this apostolic and evangelistic tradition in part due to various historic realities. Is the “Great Commission” of Matthew 28:19-20 still a vital part of Orthodoxy in the 21st century or a mere chapter in her past? How can the Church reclaim this apostolic tradition?
We welcome our visitors and guests and invite you to join us for coffee hour in the church hall following the Liturgy.
1 Timothy 1:15-17 (Epistle)
This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
Matthew 15:21-28 (Gospel)
Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”
But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.” But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

2013 Financial Status Update:
For the month of December, we had a net income in operations of $132. For the year we had a net loss of $5,021.46 in operations. This does not reflect the net proceeds from the auction as they are still in the discretionary account and do not count in the operations but will be moved to the Mortgage account shortly. Comparing 2013 to 2012, we had about the same amount in total expenses for both years of about $195,000 which also includes expenses in the discretionary account. This net income for 2012 was $209,000 compared to only $195,000 for 2013. This is a $15,000 reduction between the 2 years.
