PRACTICE PROFILE

The location

  • The practice is located in Worcester, a city with a population of approximately 120,000. The river Severn runs through the city centre, a city with significant history dating back to Roman times
  • Located just off the M5 there are good road connections to all areas with Birmingham approximately 25 miles away and close to the beautiful Malvern Hills.

The premises

  • The practice has been housed in a large purpose built state of the art premises since August 2006, which is shared with another city practice, there is a pharmacy on site and ample free car parking for over 200 vehicles.
  • The practice also delivers patient services from a branch surgery approx three miles from the city centre. GP surgeries are held every morning, phlebotomy is provided three days a week.

The Team

  • The partnership comprises seven partners, four male and three female and a salaried GP working sessions which equate to 6.0 whole time equivalent.
  • The nursing team comprisesthree RGNs and two health care assistants (the practice is currently in the process of recruiting another RGN)
  • Administrative support is provided by a team of nineteen staff, including practice manager, deputy practice manager, secretarial staff, data entry, admin and reception staff.

QOF achievement

  • The practice has consistently achieved high QOF results.

Training and Education

  • A training practice for over twenty five years with two current trainers all partners and the practice manager are actively involved with training.
  • The new premises have provided an opportunity to become involved in a new area of training. The practice commenced training for first year medical students from BirminghamUniversity in October 2006. This has been increasedover the years and training is now provide for three years of students.

The list size

  • The list size is 11350, we have seen a 10% + growth in patient numbers since moving to our new premises.

I.T.

  • The clinical system used is INPS Vision, a windows based programme.
  • The practice has over a number of years moved to a ‘paperlight status’
  • The practice is committed to maintaining and improving the standards of I.T. within the practice.
  • The branch surgery is linked by an ISDN line to the main site thus having a full I.T. solution at the branch surgery.

The wider NHS and the future

  • The practice takes an active involvement in PBC working both in the Worcester City Locality cluster and the larger consortium of 20 practices from the South Worcestershire area.
  • Out reach clinics for the RoyalOrthopaedicHospital in Birmingham, the Pain Management Service and Bowel Cancer Screening Counselling Programme from WorcestershireRoyalHospital and OPS clinics for Worcestershire Primary Care Trust are all delivered from St Martin’s Gate Surgery.
  • The practice continues to be committed and involved in new and innovative ways to support patient care.
  • The new premises have given the opportunity for the practice to deliver medical care in an exciting environment to investigate the opportunities for new and innovative practice, this will continue to be the goal for the future.
