Dear Parents
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to complete the questionnaires we sent home last week. The information will be used to inform our future development of the school. I am absolutely delighted with the overwhelmingly positive response we received and the supportive commendations included in the additional comments section. It is good to know that parents share the pride we have in our school and appreciate the work of the school staff.
General Questionnaire
As you can see from the chart above, the vast majority of parents are extremely happy with all counts of school life. One parent said that his/her child did not like school but did add that this was no reflection on the school; the child wouldn’t like any school, as he has to work rather than play. The other negatives come from just two of the questionnaires returned. As these were sent in anonymously I am unable to gain any additional information but would urge these parents to contact me as I would like to discuss some of the responses in order to further improve the service we offer.
Comments included in the additional comments section were also overwhelmingly positive (and very much appreciated!):
- Barton St Lawrence is an excellent school. I’ve watched my children flourish academically. The school is well led with amazing, dedicated staff. I am proud that my children go to the school, I don’t think I could have sent them to a better school.
- We really appreciate the number of reports we get and comments in reading records and homework folders.
- Being a Church of England school, we are happy that the values we as parents believe in are taught and upheld at the school. There should be no compromising this. This is one of the major reasons our kids are in the school.
- I would recommend this school to a friend, there are no negatives.
- The staff are brilliant and I feel that they really support you with everything. I have spoken to Mrs Loughran about an issue and that day she sorted it out and dealt with it. If I need to speak to Mrs Blackett about anything she is always available and deals with things effectively.
- Barton St Lawrence has proved the most wonderful environment in which my child has flourished. All the staff led brilliantly by the headteacher are totally committed to the pupils and this shows in not only their educational improvement, but the holistic needs of the children. We are incredibly grateful to all at the school, for they go above and beyond. Many thanks.
- Our daughter has settled into school life exceptionally well, mainly due to the fantastic induction sessions in the summer and by going straight into full days from the off in September. She is always striving to impress her teacher and do well. She is always encouraged with her love of reading and beginning to write. The rewards system, i.e. star of the week every week is a wonderful way to build confidence and self-belief not only for good work or spelling but for recognising good manners, politeness, helping one another etc, which we strongly support.
- We are extremely happy with all aspects of Barton St Lawrence.
- It’s just like the Lego Movie – It’s AWESOME!!!!
- Security could be improved in the playground area (Note: I could do to know where, how and when please. Please get in touch!)
Bullying
Clearly the best outcome from the questionnaire would have been that there were no issues whatsoever; however, we would be very naïve to think that there is never any bullying when 140 children come together, hence the reason why we do so much anti-bullying work in school. That said, we do think that instances of bullying are rare at St Lawrence’s and this has (thankfully!) been reflected in the questionnaire.Fourparents reported that their child had been a victim of bullying during their time in this school. Of those, three parents said they were completely happy with the way the school had handled the situation and it was resolved quickly. A fourth parent said that the problem had not been addressed as well as could be expected but the situation was now resolved. This parent had spoken to the class teacher but did not take the complaint further when there was no satisfactory outcome. I would therefore like to use this situation as an opportunity to remind parents that any problem is best dealt with in its infancy and this is particularly pertinent with bullying/friendship issues. The first port of call should always be the class teacher, but if ever a situation is unresolved at this stage, please come and see me! I’m no miracle worker but I will always listen and do my very best to help.
The Church School Distinctiveness Questionnaire also retuned overwhelmingly positive results (see attached chart) with just one negative questionnaire returned. Pupils have also completed a questionnaire and their responses can be viewed on the school website under the RE tab.
As always, if you have any questions, my door is always open, please do come and see me.
Yours sincerely
Julie Goodwin
