St. Jerome’s Pastoral Council Meeting

Monday, March 27, 2017

7pm, Room 3AA - Annex

Present: Jeff, Brenda, Bill, Anne, Amanda, Emily, Ed, Richard, Peter, Fr. Raj

Missing: all members present

  • Ed led opening prayer
  • Brenda led reflection
  • Reports:
  • Fr. Raj:
  • Tuesday, April 4th – Parish Reconciliation Service
  • Requested PC members attend Holy Thursday Mass; would like for us to be 9 of the “apostles” for foot washing. Please arrive by 6:45pm (Mass to start at 7pm). Requested that we try to stay for the first hour of adoration in the hall after Mass.
  • Old Business
  • Review of PC Duties and Expectations; onboarding new members – Bill reviewed the PC Norms with the entire council. All members signed acknowledgement of their understanding and receipt of a copy.
  • Overview of PC Retreat, Sunday, April 2nd 2pm - Retreat will be held in Ave Maria Chapel. Please try to arrive at 1:30 to center/reflect if possible. Rose Moyer will facilitate. We will conclude by 4:30 to allow for gathering of families to celebrate Mass together at 5pm. Dinner after mass in Jordan Hall. Please be sure to send a headcount to Bill ASAP for catering purposes.
  • Assignment of ministries – Bill discussed that he was reformatting the Ministry Spreadsheet document. He would like to either discuss it at the retreat (time-permitting) or at our next meeting for assignment. The goal is for each PC member to have contact with all ministries so we are aware of any events, issues, comments.
  • Amanda notified the Council that she and Pat Flavin had presented to Daryl Nagel and Luci Lammers (Sr/Jr Youth Group) regarding the previous proposal of these two ministries leading the Fall Festival Coordination efforts for 2017. They requested a little time to discuss internally. After brief discussion, Father Raj suggested that if a full schedule of events couldn’t be coordinated, it would be acceptable to hold a catered dinner as a way to still promote St. Jerome fellowship.
  • New Business
  • Suggestion Box/E-Mail – none. Amanda notified all PC members how they may access the email account to review any emailed entries.
  • Discussion of “One Big Event” Pastoral Council Sponsors – Bill recommended that we try to host a meaningful even for our entire Parish and the larger Waco Catholic (or non-Catholic) community. He requested that PC members prayerfully and thoughtfully consider potential suggestions and bring them to the retreat or next meeting to share.
  • Recognition of outgoing PC members (BJ, Lloyd, Theresa) – Father Raj has handled a gift to recognize their service. We will all share words of thanks at the dinner after the retreat for the outgoing members.
  • Becoming Prayer Warriors – PC – Pray Constantly – Bill requested that the PC members have a theme of “Pray Constantly” to promote the power of prayer for our parish, our families, and our fellow PC members.
  • Open Discussion – Best Thinking
  • Peter asked if we could work to promote the Formed.org subscription service to the parish to encourage enrollment. All members of the parish have access to the St. Jerome’s paid account. After brief discussion, it was recommended that a TV/Computer monitor be set-up in the foyer after a Mass to show the quality of the videos on the site.
  • Mother Teresa Center for Youth Building Guidelines – Daryl Nagel left copies of documents for the PC members to approve. As a member of the committee that researched/created the documents, Emily encouraged the PC members to carefully review and to make suggestions for edits if needed. PC members agreed to take documents home for further review.
