St Ives Dog Control Orders

Formal Consultation – 6 July 2012 to 28 September 2012

Consultation Questionnaire

St Ives Town Council is proposing new dog control orders for some beaches in the area. The details of the changes are set out below, followed by a questionnaire in which you can give your views.

The deadline for returning the questionnaire is 28 September 2012.

Explanation of the current and proposed orders:

Porthkidney, Bamaluz and Lambeth Walk beaches

Dogs are currently allowed on these beaches at all times all year round. This situation would remain unaffected by the proposed orders.

Carbis Bay, Porthgwidden, Porthmeor and Porthminster Beaches

These are the main bathing beaches for St Ives and Carbis Bay.

Dogs are currently excluded from these beaches from 1st May until 30th September, between 8am and 7pm.

It is proposed that dogs will be excluded from these beaches at all times from the Sunday before Easter until 30th September. This would extend the period of the exclusion to cover most of the Easter school holidays and would make the beaches dog-free at all times of day during the most popular times of the year.

Harbour Beach

Dogs are currently excluded from the beach from 1st May until 30th September, between 8am and 7pm.

It is proposed that dogs are excluded from this beach all year round, at all times on the principle that it is a working harbour. This would give St Ives a beach that is dog-free all year round.

Footpath from St Uny Church to Porthkidney Beach

There are currently no controls on dogs for this path.

It is proposed that dogs should be kept on leads on this path. This is proposed in order to prevent nuisance by dogs off the lead.
