St. Catherine’s Association is a non-profit organisation which provides education, training, healthcare and residential/respite care to clients (0-18) who have intellectual disabilities including autism spectrum disorder.

The following two vacanciesexistfor a PermanentContract (Fulltime) and Fixed Term Contract (Fulltime) as a:

Behaviour SupportSpecialist (x2)

The Positive Behaviour Support Department provides services to children 0 to 18 years with intellectual disabilities and/or autism who experience behaviours that challenge.

The Positive Behaviour Support Specialist is responsible for carrying out comprehensive behaviour assessments and developing multi-element behaviour support plans within the context of the multi-disciplinary team.

Essential criteria:

Qualifications/Education

  • A third level qualification in Psychology, Health or Social Care.
  • A Masters in Applied Behaviour Analysis and training in the area of Positive Behaviour Support.
  • A minimum of two years satisfactory postgraduate experience working in a Behaviour Support role in an applied setting. The successful applicant will have experience integrating programmes into pre-school, school, respite and residential settings.
  • Be engaged in professional supervision towards BCBA certification.

Experience/Professional Skills

  • Have proficiency in completing Functional Behaviour Assessments and scripting Multi-Element Behaviour Support Plans.
  • Have competencies and experience in giving presentations and training to parents, groups, staff etc.
  • Knowledge of HIQA standards for children in respite and residential settings.
  • Understanding of National Strategy surrounding Progressing Disability Services.
  • Experience in providing in-home training/parent support and supporting the MDT in managing behaviours that challenge.
  • Have experience working as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and I.T. skills.
  • A full driver licence and access to a vehicle is required.

Desirable criteria

  • BCBA certification.
  • Graduate membership of PSI.

The base location for this position is currently St. Catherine’s EDC, Newcastle. Successful applicants should be aware that this may change dependent on the roll out of Progressing Disabilities Services in County Wicklow.

The successful candidate will work as a member of the multidisciplinary team and enjoy a high level of professional support.
