FAQs - 2016 DIRECT SCHOOL ADMISSION EXERCISE

Q1) Who should apply for DSA at St. Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School?

Applicants should possess the passion and dedication for the arts with good self-discipline. We are looking for students who:

  • are proficient in playing instruments/singing/dancing/acting and are motivated to continually upgrade their performance skills.
  • are responsible individuals and are motivated and disciplined to achieve excellence.
  • possess a positive attitude and can-do-spirit.
  • are good team-players who will contribute actively to the performing arts CCAs in the school.
  • are committed to stay and contribute to the CCA that student is admitted in through the DSA exercise for 4 or 5 years of secondary education in SACSS.

Q2) Is there a minimum requirement for DSA - Sec application?

The application is open to all Singaporeans, Permanent Residents and International Students (IS) who meet the school’s minimum criteria for DSA application. For more information, please refer to the Minimum Criteria for DSA Application.

Students with a good track record of achievement in the performing arts/students with certification of proficiency in music/dance/drama are preferred.

Only short-listed applicants will be contacted by the school for an audition and interview.

For students not studying in MOE schools, including Singapore citizens (SC) and permanent residents (PR), please obtain a letter issued by MOE HQ prior to application. This letter contains a Registration Number, unique to each student, which will help MOE identify the candidate in the system.

International Students (IS) without a Dependent Pass (DP), Immigration Exemption Order (IEO) and whose parents are not SC/PR, are advised to take the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) prior to application for DSA.

The respective age requirements for students entering Secondary 1 are

- not more than 4 years overage for SC/PR and

- not more than 2 years overage for IS.

Underaged applications will not be considered.

Q3) What is the selection criteria?

Short-listed applicants will go through an audition, skills test and an interview to assess her suitability. We are looking for proficient performers with an excellent attitude. Please refer to the Selection Process for details. Once an applicant is shortlisted, she will be given more information on the requirements of the audition and details of the skills test by the school.

Q4) How do interested applicants apply?

Interested applicants who meet the school’s minimum criteria for DSA application may download the DSA Application Form from our school website and submit the completed form to the school by 15 July 2016, 5pm.

Applications must be addressed to “CCA OFFICE (Ms Fathiah)”

For students not studying in MOE schools, including Singapore citizens (SC) and permanent residents (PR), please

(i) request for a letter issued by MOE HQ before applying (This letter contains a Registration Number, unique to each student, which will help MOE identify the candidate in our system) and

(ii) submit a photocopy of the letter with the DSA application form.

Incomplete application forms will not be considered.

Q5) When is the closing date for submission of the form?

The closing date for submission of application form is 15 July 2016, 5pm.

Q6) What information do I need to submit together with my daughter’s/ward’s/my application form?

  1. School results for the past 2 years
  2. A 3R coloured photograph taken in the last 6 months
  3. Any other relevant supporting documents such as:
  • certificates of achievement obtained from performing arts institutions & examination boards. E.g. Trinity Guildhall / ABRSM / LAMDA / RAD
  • certificates obtained through representation at SYF Central Judging/local/overseas competition
  • other letter(s) of recommendation from performing arts institutions/ instructors/school

Q7) When will I know if my daughter/ward/ I have been shortlisted for the selection process?

Short-listed applicants will be informed via mail / phone call for the confirmation of audition date and details of the selection process.

Q8) When will the selection stage begin?

Audition, skills test and the interview will take place between 18 July and 26 August 2016.

Q9) When will my daughter/ward/I be notified of the DSA’s Selection outcome?

The school will send letters on the outcome of the applications to all short-listed applicants by 31 August 2016.

Q10) Can my daughter/ward/I transfer to another school after the release of PSLE Results after accepting the DSA offer?

Please note that Successful DSA-Sec candidates are NOT allowed to participate in the Secondary One Posting Exercise to opt for secondary schools. They will also not be allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the PSLE results. Successful DSA students are expected to honour their commitments to their posted DSA schools, for the duration of the programme that they admitted into.
