SPPS News

Start Time vote happened on Tuesday Dec 13th and it was voted, 4-3, in favor of exploring and further researching moving middle and high schools to later start times. A very brief recap is this: Directors that voted in favor emphasized that they were voting yes to support a robust exploratory process. No start times are changing as a direct result of THIS vote. Note: Any changes in start time would not happen before the 2017-2018 school year and specifics on times are not known yet.

There are numerous opportunities to attend a feedback session for the Superintendent Search. Follow this link for district wide opportunities.

In addition to these district wide opportunities, we will host a superintendent search feedback session at St. Anthony Park on Tuesday January 10th from 5-6:30 pm (note this falls over our usual Site Council Meeting time). Please extend the invite to school families and members of the community as well. Facilitators will be present to lead the session. Any and all are welcome. Working on child care options, with those families in DC able to leave their children in DC until 6pm and Courtney offering Langford Recreation Center as another viable option.

We need to communicate this to the school community through e-mail, Facebook, classroom notes, the school sign and any other means of communication.

It is my understanding that some of the questions asked and discussed at the session at Washington Technology last week were.

1.What qualities are most important to you?

2.What type of experience is most important for you?

3.What are your greatest concerns for your children’s education?

4.What is working well in SPPS?

Note, you are also able to provide feedback on the superintendent search by filling out an online survey. Survey can be found here:

Parent Information Fair

Site Council typically staffs the St. Anthony Park table at the School Choice Fair. This year’s fair is on Saturday January 7th from 9:30-2 at Washington Technology. Sign-ups are available here.

1) Click this link to see our SignUp on SignUp.com:

2) Review the options listed and choose the spot(s) you like.

3) Sign up! It's Easy - you will NOT need to register an account or keep a password on SignUp.com.

Thanks to those that have already signed up, we are looking good for coverage. Ann Johnson will be there the entire time and either Matt Crosby (kindergarten teacher) or Ruth Krider will be there to answers questions from the teacher perspective.

Ann will send out an FAQ list a few days prior so you can familiarize yourself with commonly asked questions.

Things we need for the School Fair—tour sign up information. Along with this we raised the idea to have families fill out a postcard with the tour information which can be mailed to them as a reminder.

Some type of sign in sheet to monitor interest/visits etc.

Budget Meeting for January

Given we are going to host a Superintendent Search Community Meeting on January 10th. This meeting will be held in February. There was some talk of having it in March, but Ann talked with Assistant Superintendent Andrew Collins and March is likely too late. We will have a doodle poll or some other means to find a good February date—look for this when school gets back in session in January.

It was proposed that this could be a FYI meeting to bring the school community up to date on a number of things directly affecting our school community including school budget, school remodeling project, and potentially could also include a brief explanation of the AMAZE program.

Hopefully we can get someone from SPPS to address budgetary questions and Todd Larson or another person to address remodeling questions with both beginning with a general short statement on where things stand to this point.

This meeting will not take place at the “normal” Site Council meeting time as it is scheduled for Valentine’s Day. Further, there will also be a February meeting of the Transportation Committee of the St. Anthony Community Foundation, immediate school neighbors and Todd Larson to discuss traffic and transportation impacts of the school remodel. At the time of our December meeting this meeting was slated for Feb 15th or 16th with a firm date still pending.

We may need to schedule a brief meeting in later January to iron out details for this meeting.

Side note—the Deadline to have something in the February issue of the Bugle (which is delivered on Jan 31st) is Jan 14th.
