My Expectations

My job is to give you a quality education. I take my job very seriously. I want you to know that my goal is to have each of you pass this class every quarter. My whole-hearted belief is that every teenager wants to be successful and should be treated as intelligent. So that we may all be successful as teachers and learners, these are my expectations:

  1. Respect yourself. Give yourself the opportunity to do well, even if right now you cannot understand how this class (or any class) will help you in the future.
  2. Respect Others. Please do not take away the opportunity for learning from anyone else in this classroom. You are not more or less important than anyone else.
  3. Respect Me. I understand respect has to be earned, and I will need to give respect in order to receive it. You need to understand that once I give respect, I will expect it in return.
  4. Be Prepared for Class: Have books, paper, notebook, handouts, and writing utensils every day. Be on time and ready to work when class starts.
  5. Be Prepared to Work: School can definitely be fun, but please do not expect this to be entertainment. Thinking and learning takes work.

What Happens When Expectations are not Met?

1st offense—I will have a one-on-one conference with you regarding the inappropriate behavior.

2nd offense—I will again conference with you, and then I will make a phone call home via Teleparent.

3rd offense— I will re-teach the appropriate behavior during tutoring time, lunch, after school and call home.

4th offense—I will write out a referral, call home, and request a conference with your parents and counselor.

The Block Schedule & Tutoring

This class is scheduled to be 1 hour and 50 minutes long twice a week. This is a long time to sit in one class, and I promise you, I will break this up into different activities that will get you moving around the room and working with different people.

If you are passing this class with a C, turning in your class work, homework, and are meeting all the above expectations, you will be released from class 20 minutes early. You can leave and go to nutrition early (1st period), lunch early (3rd period). If you have to make up work, finish work, re-learn the above expectations, have been absent, or you are failing this class you will stay the extra 20 minutes. This is not to penalize you, but to make sure you pass this class.

General Routines

Bathroom Passes: If you really have to go, get up, sign out on the sheet, take the pass, go quickly, come back, sign back in and sit down. Do all of those things quietly so as not to interrupt. Do not make a habit of this. One at time, and please try to wait until you are working independently.

Sharpening Pencils: You do not have to ask if you can sharpen pencils, but wait until you are working.

The Classroom: Please ask if you want to use a computer, need a ruler, high-lighter, paper, etc. I am usually understanding when you legitimately forget something. Always ask, and do not make a habit of forgetting things. As you can see, I am in someone else’s classroom, so it will be necessary to be doubly respectful.

Appropriate Use of Language: I understand we all talk differently while hanging out with friends at lunch, out and about, etc. This is a classroom, though, and language will be clean, free of put downs, and respectable.

Cell Phones: Cell phones have become pretty commonplace in our lives. At times, they will be collected during class. If I ask you for your phone because it is a distraction; you will get it at the end of class.

Eating and Drinking: Please do not bring in food or drinks in the classroom. Water is fine.

Contacting Mr. Cammarata

If you need to get in touch with me, please feel free to email me at using your WUHSD.org gmail account. I will not respond to any emails from personal accounts from students. Emails will be responded to Monday-Friday, during school hours. From time to time on weekends and holidays, I may check and respond to emails, but it is not a normal practice, nor should it be an expectation that I will.

Late Work & Make-Up Policy

Late work will be taken off your classwork/ participation grade rather than the assignment. I believe that the assignment should stand for itself as a representation of your ability. Doing it in a timely manner is a different ability.
