Post Kindergarten Practitioner – Maternity cover
Reporting to Manager of Kindergarten

PurposeTo deliver a high-quality, creative Kindergarten Programme for the children of the St Aloysius' College Junior School.

LocationThe Kindergarten is based at St Aloysius' College,

45 Hill Street, Glasgow G3 6RJ

Holiday Club is also based here as well as at our Sports Grounds at Millerston.

Age LevelThe Kindergarten caters for children ages 3-5yrs

Hours of WorkThe post holder is required to work 40 per week within the hours of 8.30am-5.30pm (term time) and 8am-6pm (7 weeks of School holiday period).

Principal Accountabilities

To work as part of the Early Years Teamensuring the individual needs of the children and their families are fully met, thus improving the outcomes for children and their families using the service.

Early Years workers are required to design, produce and implement a detailed weekly plan of creative activities, which are challenging, varied and fun, to support the development of children’s skills and experiences.

Monitor and evaluate children’s responses to activities and adjusting activities where necessary and appropriate

Meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of the children in our care

Act as a positive Christian role model at all times, promoting and enhancing the Jesuit ethos of the school.

In addition Early Years workers are required to engage with continuous development of practice and knowledge of current developments with regard to Early Years Education.

To maintain all records relating to the children within their key group.

To assist in risk assessments for premises, activities and trips ensuring the health and safety of the children and other staff at all times.

Familiarisation with emergency procedures and ensure that all relevant legislation is adhered to at all times in line with Care Inspectorate and SSSC Standards

Have due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare and wellbeing of the children, following the College Child Protection and Safeguarding policies.

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/
Training: / Meet the standards for SSSC registration for a Practitionerfound at These include:
HNC Childhood Practice at SCQF Level 7.
SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 7
or other listed qualifications.
Satisfactory PVG clearance
First Aid certification
Infection Control certification
Food handling certification / Evidence of continued professional development and postgraduate awards.
Experience: / A minimum of 2 year’s relevant childcare experienceas a Key Worker.
Evidence of an ability to plan and develop coherent, progressive and stimulating activities matched to individual pupils’ needs. / Experience of planning and implementation of activities.
Skills/
Knowledge: / Good knowledge of current issues in education and social care legislation particularly in relation to early years and childcare provision.
Ability to manage time effectively, prioritise tasks and work todeadlines
Empathy and understanding of children aged 3-5yrs.
Can manage pupil behaviour and Kindergarten incidents fairly, sensitively and consistently.
Promotes positive behaviour and can seek and use the advice of colleagues.
Excellent verbal and communication skills with children and parents.
Ability to write reports and keep clear and accurate records.
Excellent organisational skills Administrative and good IT skills
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to act on own initiative, identify opportunities and implement proposals. / Excellent ICT skills
