WELCOME: Wade Churchfield / The Chairman, Wade Churchfield., called the meeting to order at 4:15PM. / SRC members, DVR Staff and Guest who attended this meeting are listed above.
4/10/06 SRC Meeting Minuets Review: / The minutes from the 4/10/06 were reviewed. / The members present were unable to vote to approve for the records because there were not enough members present.
SRC MEMBERSHIP: Wade Churchfield / The attendance of members at the SRC meetings and the number of members appointed to the SRC is still an issue. In order for the SRC to accomplish objectives the number of active members must increase. / Any suggestions for increasing membership and motivating appointed members to attend meetings would be greatly appreciated.
DIRECTORS REPORT:

  • DVR has become a very big part of the new Workers Compensation legislation. Delaware is one of the most expensive Workers Compensation states in the US. DVR is written into the legislation and will play a more prominent place in the legislation.
  • VA Commonwealth University and CSAVR sponsored a Business Summit. The focus was on employers who want to hire and work with people with disabilities.
  • CSAVR: Andrea Guest is Secretary Treasurer of the CSAVR and participates in a conference call every Monday. Carl Sutter, CSAVR Director, reports all quiet on the “Hill” – hard to say how it is going to play out.
  • DVR is working hard to maintain funding for CLIMB Program.
  • - High School/High Tech grant is being dropped by the US Department of Labor.
/ Andrea Guest will keep the SRC posted regarding the new Workers Compensation legislation. It is really in the very early stages at this point.
Beth Miller of the New Journal wants to do a follow-up about the Summit and other ideas.
If SRC Members hear anything please let the folks at DVR know.
Ed Tos, DVR Deputy Director and Jan Abrams, HS/HT Program Manager are looking into ways to fund the program.
STATE PLAN: Ed Tos and HarrietAnn Litwin / Changes to the new State Plan were emailed to all the SRC members for their review and comments a week before this meeting. / The members present did not have any comments or suggestion regarding the new State Plan. The State Plan will be completed and submitted by the end of June.
2006 PUBLIC MEETINGS: / Lisa Furber, SRC Vice-Chair, reported the Public Meetings held in both Dover and Wilmington were well organized and made excellent presentation to those in attendance. Attendance was small at the Dover meeting, only 4 people attending. The Wilmington meeting had approximately 16 people in attendance. DVR staff was able to answer questions posed. Some of the comments made by people attending the meeting were to:
  • continue to work with Autism, and
  • though Federal support has been withdrawn find a way to continue the excellent CLIMB Program
  • expand services for young people such as the Transition Program and High School/High Tech.
/ Lisa Furber was thanked for the good job she did chairing the Public Meetings.
It was reported that Robert Rauch, a member of the Small Business Association who attended the public meetings, has been in touch with DVR for assistance.
COMMITTEE/PROJECT TEAMS: / Committee/Project Team assignments for this year:
  • Government Relations Committee: No report – chairman absent.
  • Membership Committee: Lisa Furber reported the following information:
She attended Partners in Policymaking meeting and made a presentation in an effort to recruit interest is becoming an SRC member. Al Rose has still not heard regarding his membership application but he continues to attend SRC meetings. Lisa has two new leads from the Public Meetings and will follow up on them
  • Consumer Satisfaction: Lois Jackson reported that all is going great with the survey.
  • Ad Hoc Committee: No report on this group for this meeting.
/ Unable to make committee and project team assignments due to lack members in attendance.
No action required.
The Membership Chairman will be glad continue to pursue any leads she receives.
Lisa Furber and Andrea Guest will conference call to discuss membership issues.
No action required.
Wade Churchfield will speak with Mark Chamberlin to see if the business of this committee can be reported at the next regular meeting.
MEETING ADJOURNED: / There being no further business the Chairman Wade Churchfield adjourned the meeting at 5:30 PM. / The next meeting will be on Monday, August 14, 2006 at 4:00 PM at the DOLFoxValleyBuilding in the Blue Conference Room and the DOL Carroll’s Plaza building.
