ELA
The sixth graders took an assessment yesterday on the relationships among Percy Jackson, heroism, and the hero’s journey. We are now beginning unit 2. Their first independent reading homework was due today. They will have the same 7 questions to pick from each week. Please check in with them during the week to ensure they are completing the assignment. For your reference here are the instructions and questions:
Independent reading homework: Pick 3 of the 7. Homework will be collected every Friday. 6 sentences minimum per question.
1) How is a character in your book similar to a character in another book, story, or movie? 2) What does this book remind you of in your own life? 3) What does this book make you wonder about in life? 4) What do you think of a particular character’s actions? Was he/she right or wrong in acting that way? 5) What advice would you give to a particular character? 6) Make up a motto that one of the characters seems to live by. How and why does it fit that character? 7) What in the book upsets or bothers you? Explain.

Science
This week students started writing the steps involved by white blood cells when the body id attacked by cold virus. Then they started making a poster and illustrated the steps.
Next week we will review for the upcoming test on Oct. 19 2017. Then we will start a new unit; Rocks and minerals where they will learn the difference between rock and mineral.

Students will be taking the end of module test on Wednesday, October 18. On Thursday we will start the second module. In Module 2, students complete their understanding of the four operations as they study division of whole numbers, division by a fraction and operations on multi-digit decimals.

Quran
Content Objectives/ Goals:
1. The students will review the previous surahs they have learned.
2. The students will review tajweed lesson AL-Maad Al-Tabea’ee ,Eqllab and Athharr
3.The students will learn Tajweed lesson ( laam Al-shmsiya and laam Al- kamarayi ) لام الشمسيه و لام القمريه
4. The students will read in their Qur’an(first group) from surah Al-Kamar, (sound group) from surah Al-Tuor
5. The students will have a new vocabulary from surah An-Naba’
6. Memorizing surah An- Naba
Homework
  • Surah Memorization: Memorize Surah An-Naba’-, ayahs given in class. Be prepared to give the meaning or main idea(s) of the surah or ayahs.
  • Practicing tajweed rules that was given to them.
  • The students will read surah Kahf every Friday.
  • The students will practice the vocabulary for the test

Islamic Studies Class
Content Objectives/ Goals:
1. The students will learn ‘The Salah (Prayer), in: “Islamic ‘Aqidah and Fiqh”.
2. The students will learn ‘The Five Compulsory Prayers’.
3. The students will learn ‘The Adhan and Qiblah.’

NOTE:
The students will have a quiz, on Wednesday, October, 18th, on”Islamic Aqidah: A Summary of Iman,” in their book: “Islamic ‘Aqidah and Fiqh”, pp. 4- 5.
Please, have your children be prepared for it.
