Natural Networks is a new project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. It will develop skills to facilitate the 'green network' of sites considered essential for the effective conservation of biodiversity, creating a UK wide web of expertise in managing and engaging people in ecological networks. The project will develop the skills of 32 trainees and hundreds of communities across the UK to understand, value, protect and increase the biodiversity of their local green places.
West Lothian has an extensive green network and this traineeship will be tasked with promoting active ageing with a focus on developing and sharing organisational learning and practical project delivery around Green Health in Later Life and “Dementia Friendly Greenspaces” agendas with:
  • Dementia support networks within care home and hospital ward settings.
  • West Lothian’s new dementia cafes network,
  • Housing Associations and Extra Care organisations who work with older people (and where building natural exercise into supported living arrangements is achievable)
During the placement you will be supported to learn and put into practice a wide range of natural heritage and community development skills and develop and deliver your own community environmental engagement project.
  • You will need to have a basic knowledge of natural history and a commitment to conservation. Some experience of working with the public is essential and experience delivering environmental education, working with community groups or working with volunteers will be an advantage. You will be highly motivated and able to work efficiently without supervision. This role requires excellent communication and organisational skills and an aptitude for enthusing others to value, enjoy and protect our natural heritage.
