1. PURPOSE AND SCOPE
1.1 Under the direction of the Senior Caretaker or School Business Manager and in accordance with the practicesand procedures of the school, to ensure that the school premises and itscontents are properly maintained, secured and ready for use.
1.2To help keep the school clean and tidy.
1.3To carry out general repair and maintenance tasks.
2. ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
2.1 Responsible to the Senior Caretaker.
2.2 Responsible for the Cleaners where applicable.
3. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1 To be responsible for the operation of fire and burglar alarms and undertaking keyholderresponsibilities, involving locking/unlocking entrances, checking and securingwindows and internal doors, activating and switching off alarm systems, etc. Tobe available if necessary to answer emergencies outside of regular working hoursand for pre-planned lettings.
3.2 To ensure that heating and lighting systems and other equipment are workingproperly, including such systems in accommodation used solely for school mealswhere there are common services. To regulate heating/ventilation as necessary.
3.3 To supervise other caretaking and cleaning staff (where applicable) under the
general directions of the Senior Caretaker and School Business Manager.
3.4 To monitor the work of the cleaning team.
3.5 To allow access to authorised maintenance or building contractors andensure they are aware of any potential hazards connected with their presence onthe premises, having regard to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
3.6 To be fully aware of and to comply with all departmental instructions andprocedures relating to Health and Safety at Work and to recognise theresponsibilities required under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
3.7 To undertake porterage and handyperson duties, including moving goodsand furniture, minor repairs to property, fixtures, fittings and equipment.
3.8Incidental to the primary functions of the job, to clean designated areas andensure that they are kept in a clean and hygienic condition. To ensure sanitary conditions are high, and replenish sanitary materials.
3.9 To maintain and operate plant and equipment including maintenance of swimming pool.
3.10 General cleaning of store rooms and boiler rooms,obtaining or storing equipment/materials for teaching and other staff.
3.11 By negotiation to take responsibility for the duties associated with a reasonable number ofevening and weekend lettings.
3.12 To undertake outside duties, for example clearance of drains and gullies,general tidying, incineration of rubbish, snow clearance, etc.
3.13 To perform such other duties of a like nature as may from time to time berequired by the School Business Manager.
