Dear Parents,

Tomorrow is thefirst day of spring! So spring, weather, and rainbows will be the themes of the week.Speaking of rainbows, there are 8 pots of gold at the end of ours! Keep working with your child to finish learning those words so we can fill our whole board! Only a little over a week to go. Our sight words for this week are “when” and “down”. We are also beginning to learn about long vowels. Last week we worked on long A, and this week we will add E and I.

The children are getting pretty good at identifying their 3D shapes! They can even explain many of the attributes that make each of them special. We will continue to reinforce those skills in workplaces over the next few weeks, while moving our direct lessons into subtraction. This is another opportunity to work with your child on real-world problems. As you count actual items your child owns, ask them how many they would have if they lost 3. Or, as you are cleaning up, ask how many cars they have, how many they have already put away, and figure out how many more they still need to clean up. It’s a fun break from the work, and a good way to show how math is part of our lives every day.

For the next 4 weeks, our class is leading the Pledge of Allegiance each Monday. It is exciting to be able to hear our friends over the loudspeaker, and it is a chance for us to show how responsible we have become. We also had a Bellefest today where we announced some new Jr. Respect Rangers. It is wonderful to be part of a class where each month I have an excellent student or two to nominate for this award. Our classroom is full of good examples to follow. We have been counting down the days until the end of school. I don’t know if your children have told you, but our chain is shorter than me now. Only 41 days of school to go. It is flying by. Thank you for sharing your children with me each day.

Spring, rainbows and Respect Rangers! It’s going to be a great week in kindergarten.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Susan Byshenk
