The Graduate Student CouncilAwards Ceremony has been one of the primary goals of past and present GSC members. The vision is to recognize and honor outstanding graduate students and their mentors for their exceptional achievements and contributions toArkansas State University.

Award winners and their nominators will be invited to attend the Graduate Student Council Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony on 25 April 2018 at 6:00pm in Delta Center Room 201.


Outstanding Graduate Student MentorAward

First presented in 2015, the Outstanding Graduate Student Mentor Award recognizes the hard

work, dedication, and desire of graduate students to help undergraduate or fellow graduate and professionalstudents succeed. The Graduate Student Council greatly appreciates the contagious enthusiasm,professionalism, and motivation that our peers provideus and undergraduate students. All undergraduate, graduate, andprofessional students, as well as faculty members at Arkansas State University-Jonesboro are invited to show their supportto graduate students that they feel deserve special recognition for exemplary performance.Two graduate students (one Master’s-level and one Doctoral-level student) will be selected and awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Mentor Award.

Definition of a Mentor

A graduate student who exemplifies a deep commitment to fostering theprofessional and personal development of undergraduates and their peers. They have invested in the potentialof students andgo beyond the general assistant role.

Selection Committee Criteria

  • The graduate student mentor encourages studentdevelopment through undergraduate- and/or graduate-level research andprofessionaldevelopment opportunities beyond the classroom.
  • The mentor promotes successful transition from undergraduate and/or graduate studies to professional employment.
  • The mentor sponsors students and their work in and beyond the campus community, includingsupporting student attendance and participation at conferences.
  • The mentor acts as an advocate and leader by assisting undergraduates and/or their fellow graduate students withpublishing, grant writing, presentation of research findings, and/or job placement.
  • The mentor demonstrates respect and a sincere and active interest in the well-being of undergraduates and/or their fellow graduatestudents.
