Sports Marketing Fashion Trends Feature Article
In this class you have learned about the “product life cycle” and how consumer products go through several stages. Trends come and go in the clothing industry, and the sports clothing industry is no different. In this assignment you are going to research trends in the Sports Apparel industry and write an article about your findings.
Your Role: You are to assume the role of a reporter for the School Newspaper.
Your Task: You are to research current trends in the athletic/sports apparel industry and write an informative article to be published in the school newspaper. This article should be written with the purpose of informing your fellow John Hardin students about what is hot (peak), what is not (decline/obsolescence), and what is on the rise (introduction/growth) in the sports apparel industry. The types of products that you can focus your article on could include fashion information on any sports related apparel or accessories including:
Clothes– Shirts, shorts, jerseys, warmups, underwear, or any other sports related clothing
Shoes– Any sort of athletic shoe trends
Performance wear & Accessories – Headbands, wristbands, hats, socks, sunglasses, or any other related sports accessories.
You can cover a broad area of fashion trends from the sports apparel industry or focus your article on one specific type of athletic wear. However, keep in mind your purpose and audience at all times. Realize that you want to inform your fellow classmates in an entertaining manor about fashion tips that will make them some of the hippest people in the school.
Your article has to be at least one page in length in a two column format and you should include one or two pictures from the internet that highlight some of the main trends you refer to in the article. Be sure to also cite any articles or websites that you get your information from.
Your article needs to be organized with the following parts:
Headline – Large words, usually not more than a few, that will get the attention of the reader. Should be creative.
Subheading – Smaller headline that goes into a little more detail about what the article is going to be about.
Lead – The first part of an article that draws the reader in. This will be referred back to in the conclusion of the article. This can come in the form of a question (Not too obvious), a startling fact/statement, story, personal experience, or a quote.
Body – The meat and potatoes of the article
Conclusion – Sums up the main points of the article and usually answers or refers back to the lead.
