SPORTS EVELOPMENT, COACHING AND FITNESS

Pre Enrolment Task

2017

In order to prepare you for BTEC Sport, we have set you the following task. We will be using the information you collect for this task in the first few lessons. Make sure that you have the work with you to hand in for the first lesson, preferably printed off on paper.

Fitness is a vital part of being a successful athlete. To be able compete at a good level you need to have an excellent level of fitness.

Fitness is made up of many different components. Some of these include:

  • Speed
  • Cardiovascular Endurance
  • Muscular Endurance
  • Strength
  • Power
  • Flexibility

Task 1

You must create a leaflet and within this you need to:

  • Define each of the above components, describing what each means.
  • Explain why each of the above is necessary in sport (you may use different sports) and use a famous sports person who has the component to aid your explanation.

Task 2 (Stretch and Challenge)

Pick a sport of your choice.

In a written report:

  • Evaluate the importance of each of the above mentioned components in your chosen sport, highlighting why it is necessary and what the impact would be on performance if they did not have that certain component.

You may find the information to help you with the tasks on the internet and also in text books. Make sure that if you use information from either of these that you do not copy the work and that all of your work is written in your own words.

Good Luck and see you in the first lesson.
