Sport Specific Rules-CHEERLEADING

  1. In addition to these Cheerleading Sport Specific Rules, you must also follow all school code of conduct & athletic training rules.
  2. There will be absolutely NO jewelry (seen or unseen) during practice, games, or competitions. Plugs are not allowed. If jewelry is not removed prior to start of practice cheerleader will not be permitted to participate (National Federation Rule)
  3. No body glitter, hair glitter, nail polish or metal barrettes at games or competitions. (National Federation Rule)
  4. Public displays of affection are unacceptable especially in uniform. This includes kissing, touching, etc.
  5. No profanity or poor sportsmanlike conduct at any time.
  6. Sports drinks or water will be allowed during breaks at games and practice. No soda or food will be allowed.
  7. If there is a change in the schedule, you will be notified by a phone call, text message, email or via PA.
  8. During games, you are to cheer and encourage appropriate crowd participation. You are to be with the team at all times and NOT socializing (including with each other).
  9. If you stay with a teacher and are going to be late for practice, you MUST have a note or pass from that teacher when you arrive. You also need to let coach know of this as soon as possible, before practice.
  10. Proper dress for practice includes a sports bra, T-shirt or tank, shorts, socks and CHEERLEADING SNEAKERS. If cheerleaders are not in proper practice attire they will not be permitted to participate.
  11. Attendance is Mandatory and cheerleaders must attend all practices, games, and competitions.
  12. However if missing a practice, game, or competition, you MUST let the coach know ahead of time. There must be a written excuse explaining the reason for any absences.
  13. Illegal absences include but are not limited to; work, b-day parties, family get togethers, hanging with friends, vacations, and being grounded. These are not acceptable absences. Three illegal absences during the season and you will be dismissed from the team.
  14. You must participate in the practice prior to an event to be eligible to participate in said event. There will be consequences for attendance issues.
  15. Being on time for all practices and games is mandatory. Being on time means being ready & prepared. If you are tardy more than 15 minutes you will be sent home and marked as illegally absent.
  16. Extra practices may be scheduled near competition time; you will be expected to attend.
  17. If you are unable to participate in practice, you must still attend unless excused by coach.
  18. If you are restricted from participation or are under doctor’s care and are released, you must also see the school nurse to get a release note.
  19. If you are unable to participate in a game, you must still be in full uniform (including hair up) and sit with the squad while they cheer. The only exception to this is if you are suspended for either behavior or academics.
  20. Cell phones are not to be used during practice time or game time, NO EXCEPTIONS! Coaches have their cell phones on at all times in case of emergency.
  21. You will be issued a uniform for the season, you are responsible to keep it clean and tidy at all times. Any damage (other than normal wear & tear) you will be invoiced for the cost of repair or replacement.
  22. Uniform, while wearing it at school includes: bodysuit, shell, skirt, lollies, socks, and cheerleading sneakers (unless otherwise noted by the coach).
  23. For competitions & any away games team is required to ride on the bus to and from with the team. Emergencies are the only exceptions!
  24. Insubordination of any kind will not be tolerated and will have consequences.
  25. There will be additional costs to participate in cheerleading such sneakers, lollies, bodyliners, bows, tumbling etc. Cost details TBA.
  26. As part of the cheerleading program I understand that there are fundraiser throughout the season that I must participate in as part of the team.

***Please keep in mind that this is asport, not just an activity. We have become a respected athletic team in this district and would like to keep moving forward with that respect.***

I (cheerleader & parent/guardian) have read and reviewed the Newark Sports Specific Rules for Cheerleading prior to the current season tryouts. I understand the expectations clearly and have asked any questions that I needed clearer details on. I understand that I need to abide by these expectations as well as abide by the Newark Code of Conduct and Training Rules. I am fully prepared to make a decision to try out for the Newark Cheerleading squad without conflicts and I am prepared to accept all rules and regulations. I accept all expectations with pride, and agree to follow the Newark Central School & squad rules completely and without question.
