Dear Scouts & Scouters:

Troop 3, New Bedford is excited to be the sponsor of the Sixth Annual Cachalot District Merit Badge College to be held again at Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School, 1121 Ashley Boulevard, New Bedford. Cost is $20 per scout (fee includes meal on both dates).

We will once again offer a large selection to pick from:

**- Merit Badges that require both classes on both dates 6-9:30 PM

As you can see, many of the Merit Badges are hands-on Merit Badges and some require pre-requisites.

Merit Badges offered in this packet are subject to change due to availability of counselors.

Registration is First Come – First Serve.

Class sizes are limited.

Don’t forget to bring a copy of the Merit Badge booklet for your Badge and a Council approved Blue Card.

Leaders and parents are expected to follow all Scouting requirements for two-deep leadership for this event.

Merit Badge Choices:

Each Scout must select four of the Badges offered and list in order of choice on the Scout Merit Badge Registration Form. It is very important that the Scout select at least four Merit Badges in the event the first or second choice is not available. Scouts will be informed of the final results in adequate time to purchase Merit Badge books.

Additional Information

Materials:

Scouts should bring Merit Badge book(s), notepaper, and pen or pencil with them to each session. Each Scout must be familiar with the information in the Merit Badge book prior to attending and should have completed any pre-requisites.

Pre-requisites:

If the Merit Badge contains a pre-requisite that says “discuss”, “list”, “write”, “describe”, “name”, “define” or any similar statement, this means the Scout should bring a written report to the first Merit Badge session to turn in to the counselor and should be able to display knowledge of the material. If a pre-requisite item says to “visit”, then the Scout should bring a written report describing the visit which includes a Scoutmaster or parent signature on the report. The list of pre-requisites is on Page 3 of this packet.

Merit Badge Cards:

A Council approved Merit Badge Card is the responsibility of the Scout to bring whether the Merit Badge is completed or not. Merit Badge cards will be available at the event if needed. It is the Scout‘s responsibility to ensure his blue card is completed by the counselor. If the Scout attends but the pre-requisite work was not done before the first session he will have an opportunity between sessions to complete the pre-requisite.


Code of Conduct:

The Scout Oath, The Scout Law and The Outdoor Code will serve as the Code of Conduct for the event.

Uniform/Dress Code:

Class A Uniform is required. A Scout out of uniform may be asked to leave.

Refund Policy:

Due to up-front expenses and fees we cannot allow refunds.

Citzenship of Community- Requirement 3 (November 13, 2014 Scouts can attend a City Council meeting held at New Bedford City Hall 133 William St New Bedford MA. If scout needs this requirement).

Horsemanship-Required to go on a trip to a stable and finish requirements
