DEMOLITION DERBY

ENTRY FEE: $50.00 for Car & Driver

Rules and Regulations:

1.  All cars must be stock, either compactor full size, no weld, but the engine may be switched providing the new engine matches the body by manufacturing line. Example: Fords in Fords, GMC in General Motor Cars, Chrysler in Chrysler and American Motors in American Motors bodies. Compact determination is 103” wheel base or less and the judges’ discretion.

2.  Bumpers can be welded to brackets and the brackets can be welded to the frame. No welding bumper directly to the frame.

3.  No roll bars.

4.  All glass must be COMPLETELY removed from the car.

5.  Driver’s door must be braced. No attachments to frame are allowed. Cross bracing is allowed providing it is no lower than 8 inches from the top of the window and is not braced or attached to the frame.

6.  All pieces of chrome, plastic and other loose material must be removed from the car. This includes pot metal.

7.  All cars must have air breathers. One to Two 8-inch holes will be cut out on the hood for fire extinguisher access.

8.  Station wagons must have access to rear storage area for inspection purposes.

9.  All drivers must sign a release of liability and drive at their own risk.

10.  Drivers must be at least 16 years of age. Drivers between the ages 16-18 must have parents sign a waiver at check in time.

11.  All drivers must wear a legal crash helmet. Other protective gear is optional.

12.  If a race must be stopped because of a car or driver causing a possible safety hazard, the car is automatically disqualified from continuing in that heat. If a car quits or catches on fire, the car and driver must stay in the arena. If the driver leaves the arena, he is disqualified. The fire has to be out.

13.  All drivers must have a radiator in original position. No water barrels will be allowed.

14.  Transmission cooler lines must be covered to avoid injury to drivers or spectators from the release of hot transmission fluid.

15.  Motor mounts and clutch may be tied down. Batteries must be moved, tied down and covered.

16.  The gas tank must be placed in the rear seat and secured to the discretion to the inspector, preferably bolted down.

17.  The gas tank must be covered with a wet blanket and contain no more than six (6) gallons of gas per heat.

18.  All cars must have all doors, hood and trunk chained shut to prevent them from becoming a projectile, which could cause injury to other drivers or spectators.

19.  Driver’s door should be painted red or orange.

20.  Any car hitting another car in the driver’s door will raise his flag and shut his car down and will be disqualified from that heat. (This is for driver’s safety.) Judge’s decision is final.

21.  No cars are to be driven around in the pit area, except going to and coming back from the track.

22.  No driver will be allowed to drive if he or she is intoxicated.

23.  The last car to move under its own power or the last car initiating the last his, as per judge’s decision, is considered the winner.

24.  Only the drivers of the car, judges and fire department personnel are allowed in the arena during the race.

25.  Judges reserve the right to disqualify any driver upon majority decision of the judges.

26.  Judge’s decision is final.

27.  Any car that cannot move under its own power or that doesn’t make a hit, or start after two minutes will be directed to raise their flag to a judge.

28.  At any point a driver may voluntarily raise their flag. Once it has been raised, the car may not resume competition and the engine must be shut off.

29.  The bottom of a bumper may not exceed 16 inches from the ground, prior to the first heat and may not be raised by means other than impact with other cars during the derby.

30.  No cutting on cars, until they have been demo-ed one time.

31.  No taxicabs or Chrysler Imperials.

32.  If the winner of the slop heat is towed from the arena, time will be started after the car is unhooked from the wrecker.

33.  Entry fee includes car and driver. Pit crew individuals are to pay separate admission fee of $10.00 for a Pit Pass.

34.  A rooftop number is mandatory and must be securely fastened to the top of the car.

35.  Any car with three wheels over the berm will be disqualified.

36.  Each driver, pit crew member, and anyone entering the pit area must sign a wavier and release of liability which releases the Julesburg Lions Club, The Julesburg Fire Department and anyone involved in promoting this event from any and all liability resulting from participation in this event.

37.  ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL IN THE PIT OR ARENA AREAS.

38.  All cars are to be removed from the Sedgwick County Fair grounds following the show or they will become the property of the Julesburg Lions Club and they will have them removed (unless otherwise specified at the drivers meeting).

39.  A drivers meeting is scheduled for one hour prior to the derby starting time. This is subject to change.

40.  The Julesburg Lions Club reserves the right to approve or reject any and all entries.

41.  All cars may have a bar on the inside from center doorpost to center doorpost or from drivers’ side center post to passenger side frame, behind the driver’s seat.
