The Bandana Project
September 12th-16th, 10am-2pm, Wescoe Beach
Students will be invited to decorate bandanas that will be displayed on campus as a symbolic gesture to raise awareness of thesexual exploitation offarmworker women. The project has adopted the bandana as a symbol of solidarity to end this abuse because many farmworker women use bandanas on the job to cover their faces and bodies in an attempt to ward off unwanted sexual attention that often leads to rape. Part of Sexual Assault Awareness Week.

Alternative Weekend Breaks will be volunteering at the Festival of Cultures hosted by the Centro Hispano Resource Center on Sunday, September 25th in South Park. The Festival is a community event that celebrates a variety of cultures in Lawrence. Volunteers will help with children’s activities such as the crafts table, moon walk and face painting.
