Job Description

Position: / Port Engineer – Southern Fleet / Location: / Tampa, FL
Reports To: / Manager Maintenance & Repair
  1. General Description of Work Performed

The Port Engineer – Southern Fleet is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and oversight of safe engineering practices of Bouchard ATB’s assigned primarily in the Gulf of Mexico and East Coast Region.

  1. Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Development and monitoring of budgets and schedules, contractor selection and oversight, and vendor contract management.
  1. Responsibility for compliance with regulatory rules and regulations and liaison to USCG and ABS agencies
  1. Management of the vessels’ daily maintenance and repair as well as all expenditure controls utilizing ABS Nautical NS5.
  1. Complete dry-dock and project management as well as the development of specifications and bid packages, contract negotiations, and quality assurance.
  1. Conducts and directs periodic inspections of vessels for evaluation of operating performance and conformity per internal SMS protocol.
  1. Travels to various ports of call to consult with vessel personnel regarding maintenance and operating requirements.
  1. Is trained in emergency response and serves as a member of the oil spill response team.
  1. Has awareness of the company's Environmental Quality Management System and the requirements to adhere to same.
  1. Be aware of and ensure the use of communication tools for the organization:

a.Corrective action process

b.Safety Alerts / Lessons Learned

c.Management review board meetings (Quarterly and Annually)

d.All inquiries internal or external are to be forwarded to the Qualified Individual for logging and appropriate action.

  1. Ensure that system audits are performed consistent with quality and environmental requirements.
  1. Ensure that corporate steering committee meetings are conducted consistent with quality and environmental requirements.
  1. Reporting Relationships

The Vessel Supervisor reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer. Vessel Personnel in his assigned group are responsible directly to the Vessel Supervisor.

IV. Knowledge, Skills and Educational Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent experience (7+) years in Marine Engineering.
  • At least three (7) years’ experience in all aspects of vessel management including: maintenance, regulatory compliance, tug/tanker operations.
  • Working knowledge of USCG and ABS vessel regulations and the ISM Code.
  • Must possess strong organizational abilities and be very detail oriented.
  • Must be willing to travel frequently (up to 30%) on a regional basis.
  • Must be willing to work in both and office environment as well as vessel environment. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels, and potentially dangerous equipment.
