Morning: 9.30am to 12pm “Speech and Language Difficulties: What are they and how they affect learning.”

Workshop led byKaren Lansdell:Specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist (BSc (Hons) Cert. RCSLT HCPCreg. MASLTIP) .

Afternoon:1pm to 4pm “Working together with the school to improve speech and language therapy in the classroom”

Workshop led by led by Ann Bauer, Head of a Speech and Language Unit in a mainstream school, and a qualified dyslexia and speech and language teacher. M.Ed, BA(Hons), LRAM, LGSM, PGCE, OCRDipSpLD.

Cost:

Speech and Language Difficulties 9.30am to 12pm. Cost: £40.00

Working together with the school.1pm to 4pm. Cost: £40.00

Both workshops: £70.00 including a sandwich lunch.

*Concessionary rates for those on income support/tax credits and students: £25.00 per workshop or £45.00 for both. Proof required at time of booking.

9.30am to 12pm:

Speech and Language difficulties: What are they and how they affect learning.

Coffee and introductions

  • Development of speech, language and communication systems
  • Identification of difficulties in these areas (what to spot at home or in the classroom)
  • Impact of difficulties on classroom learning, socialisation and academic progress
  • EHCP reports and provision for speech, language and communication difficulties
  • Question and answer session
  • How to help children with speech, language and communication difficulties

12-1pm Lunch for people attending both workshops

1pm to 4pm:

Working together with the school to improve speech and language therapy in the classroom

  • Coping in the classroom setting/ will a mainstream classroom be right
  • What can a specialist teacher add to the mix
  • Curriculum knowledge/pre-teaching of language needed/conceptual teaching
  • Links with teaching staff
  • Exam access and access to resources: laptops etc
  • Possible assessment for dyslexia
  • Classroom teaching as an example of best methods for other staff
  • Monitoring of class teachers

TRANSPORT TO SOS!SEN OFFICE

(opposite Hampton Court train station)

By train:Hampton Court is in Zone 6 and you can use Oyster Pay as You Go on trains to Hampton Court.

  • 35 minutes from London Waterloo.
  • You could also get a train to Kingston and then a bus from there.
  • The service is run by South West Trains. Information on planned engineering worksis on their websiteSouthwest Trainsor plan your journey using the TFL journey planner.

By tube:

There is no tube station near Hampton Court. The nearest are Wimbledon (from whereyou can catch the train) or Richmond (then the R68 bus). Both are on the District Line. London Overground services also run to Richmond station.

By bus:

Bus routes from Kingston: 111*, 216*,411*, 461, 513. From Richmond: R68* *These services accept Oyster cards, LT cards, bus passes, Travelcards, Freedom Passes and Saver Tickets. For further information about bus routes please go to theTransport for London website. Buses pull up outside the train station, and the SOS!SEN office is opposite the train station on the other side of the road (grey door).

By car:

 From the M25 take either exit 10 on to the A307 or exit 12 on to the A308.

 From the A3 follow the A309 towards Hampton Court.

Unfortunately there are no direct facilities for parking at our office and we advise that you leave extra time for parking in a car park ( or in a side street. Hampton Court Palace has 204 car parking spaces (daily rate applies).
