Specifications for Research Project

Follow the guidelines below in completing your Research Paper. Any deviations from these guidelines will result in points being deducted from your grade.

PAPER

SET UP/FORMAT

  1. All papers must be typed using one-inch margins at the top, bottom, on the left and right. Use 12-point Times or Times Roman font.
  2. At the top left corner, single-spaced, list your full name. On the next line type the name of your instructor and your class period. On the next line type the date the assignment is due. Last, list the assignment type, which for this assignment is a Research Project Paper.
  3. Skip two lines and type the title of your paper centered and in bold type.
  4. Skip two lines and begin the introduction of your paper, maintaining proper paragraph indents and using double-spaced line spacing.
  5. Indicate page numbers at the top right corner of each page using your last name as a slug.

PARENTHETICAL CITATIONS

  1. Parenthetical citations must be included within the body paragraphs.
  2. In general, a citation includes the author’s last name and appropriate page number Citations are included for all direct and indirect quotes, as well as paraphrased information.
  3. Failure to include parenthetical citations will result in an automatic ZERO

WORKS CITED PAGE (20 points)

  1. Your Works Cited page should be compiled on a separate sheet of paper and placed after the text of your work.
  2. The Works Cited page does not count in the total length of your paper.
  3. Maintain 12-point Times or Times Roman font from the paper.
  4. Center the words Works Cited at the top of the page.
  5. Skip two lines and at the left margin (flush left) begin listing in alphabetical order the works used in writing your project paper.
  6. Failure to include a Works Cited page will result in an automatic ZERO

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

Your paper must meet the minimum of 5typed pages, following the specifications indicated above.

  1. All direct and indirect quotes, paraphrasing, and summarizations must be properly attributed to the source material following MLA format. The use of non-cited material constitutes plagiarism.
  2. You must utilize the minimum sources listed on your works cited page and in your paper. Care must be given in the sources chosen. There must be a minimum of 5 sources, only one source may be from the Internet. Make use of databases for scholarly research sources. Cited material may not have been copyrighted prior to 2000.
  3. Standard rules of grammar and punctuation are to be followed throughout the assignment.

CONTENT

  1. The paper must fulfill the assignment and provide accurate information about the topic.
  2. The paper must include proper use of and a good mix of direct and indirect quotes, paraphrasing, and summarizations, especially incorporating direct quotes into sentences.
  3. The project must be on the topic submitted in writing (the proposal) by the student and approved by your instructor.

DEADLINES

The final copy of your research paper is due at the beginning of class onMonday December 14, 2015. Late papers will be scored down a letter grade for each day not submitted. Papers submitted later than Wednesday, December 16, 2015will not be accepted. There are no exceptions. Please modify your schedule to foresee or allow for any emergencies.
