Special Thanks to Janet Fuller and Other Departing Staff
The end of the school year brings with it well wishes and goodbyes to many members of our school community who have given so much. Anna Larson, who has served as one of our Librarians this year will be moving to White River School District in order to serve students in pre-school and kindergarten. Connie Reiss has been a vital part of our school serving as our Educational Specialist and supporting our special education program and all our staff and students at Kent Prairie. Also, Jennifer Marsh who has been with our 5th Gr. Team will be missed as she begins teaching at Post Middle School next year along with Julie Martin who teaches Health & Fitness. She will be at AHS next year. Finally, our beloved Librarian, Janet Fuller, is retiring and starting her next adventure in life. She has given so much to our Kent Prairie community as a classroom teacher and in the library, and we offer our sincere thanks for her many years of dedicated service.
Celebrations for the 2016-17 School year
We truly have so much to celebrate as we wrap up the 2016-17 school year. First, there are all our wonderful students who continue to grow in so many ways. Special thanks goes out to our PTA and families this year who provided fun events for our students, wonderful new additions to our playground, new technology, and experiences that take our students beyond our school walls. Each staff member inspires our students and so many others on a daily basis, and I thank them for their ongoing dedication and creativity. We wish our departing fifth graders the best as they enter the middle school years. For those families that leave us due to moving or having their last child at Kent Prairie, we look forward to hearing of the many successes in the future.
Report Cards Come Home on June 20th With Students
Our year–end report cards will be going home with students on the last day of school, which is June 20th. This is a great time to celebrate the successes of each child as well as set goals for the future.
The success of each child is a team effort of staff, families, and the students, and this report card can help represent so much of the work that has taken place over the year. Also, Family Access is available throughout the summer so you can view the report card and other information related to your child.
Class Placement Notification for Next Year
Once again, we will be notifying parents about class placement through the Family Access program. This is a great time to make sure you have Family Access login information or call our school office in order to help you get this. We will send a Connect-Ed call to let families know when they can find class placement. Most likely, this will be the week before Labor Day weekend.

We have lots of news to share as we wrap up the year!
All library books are due back in the library on Monday, June 5th. Fines for missing or damaged books can be paid for in the office by check or with exact change. Bills will be sent home with students.
Our Summer Book Exchange will take place on June 9th. Permission slips have been given to students.
Look for the school district Books on the Bus this summer on Wednesdays! The schedule will be posted online soon. This "bookmobile" is a handy way to keep students reading over the summer. And, as always, the public library will be having their creative, fun summer reading program.
After 32 years of teaching (24 years at our fantastic Kent Prairie), I will be retiring and my cohort, Anna Larson will be moving out of the area to a new teaching position. We are so fortunate to have the librarian from Cougar Creek, Nadine Roys, as our new librarian!
Thank you so much for sharing your children with us this year. We hope you have a wonderful summer and....
Keep the Kids Reading!!
School dress Code
The dress code that the district has adopted is to create a positive and non-disruptive learning environment for all. Students are expected to dress appropriately. You can use the following guidelines for choosing your child’s school clothing.
- Shirts must not expose your stomach
- Shorts and skirts should be finger length when your arms are fully extended at your side.
- Tank tops and sleeveless tops are allowed as long as the straps are two fingers wide and the garment covers the underarm area.
Our goal is to finish strong in Music class. Students are learning how EXPRESSION is used to change the mood of a song. Expression includes Dynamics – the louds and quiets (soft) of music, Tempo – the speed of the beat, and articulation – how each note is played.
On Fire News
We performed a wonderful concert on May 16th at the AHS Performing Arts Center. But we have 3 more performances coming before the end of the school year.
Spring tour – On June 6th we will visit Olympic Place and Cascade Valley Senior Living. Permission slips were given 5/26. We will walk over to Olympic Place and sing for the residents at 10:30 AM, walk back to Jensen Park to eat our lunch. We will return to school but leave again at 1:45 to sing for the residents at Cascade Valley Senior Living at 2:00.
Also, we will be singing for the students at KP on the 16th of June. A wonderful way to end our year! Thank, parents, for your support!!
Fourth graders – please keep your recorder for next year. You will need them in the fifth grade, too!
If your child has medication in the nurse’s office, we need to have you come into the health room and pick it up by dismissal on Tuesday, June 20, 2017. Remember, as long as your child is on premises, medication must remain in the heath room. If you are unable to pick up the medication on that date, please call to make other arrangements, as we cannot send medication home with students. Medications not picked up will be disposed of at dismissal on June 20.
2017/2018 Health Care Plans
Please be sure a completed 2017/2018 health care plan, medication orders, medications, and equipment must be in place before a student with health conditions may attend school in the fall. Forms are available at school or online at www.asd.wednet.edu
