PROPERTY E ESTATES & FUTURE INTERESTS TEST:

INFORMATION & INSTRUCTIONS

A. TEST LOGISTICS

1. Your test will be administered on Thursday March 21 at 11:00 a.m. The test will be 70 minutes long and will consist of 24 multiple choice questions. The test will cover only the material in Chapter 4.

2. Some students will take the test in F309 (our regular classroom) and some will take it in A110. A couple of days before the test, we will let you know which room you will be in.

3. Students needing exam accommodations should contact the Disability Coordinator before Spring Break to ensure that proper arrangements will be made.

4. We will provide each student with the booklet of test questions, scrap paper, and the Scan-Tron sheets on which you’ll mark your answers. To fill out the Scan-Tron sheets, you will need to bring your own #2 pencils.

5. The test is completely closed book, meaning that, while taking the test, you may not consult any materials other than the test booklet and any notes you have written on scrap paper after the test has started.

6. To assist your memory, the syllabus for Chapter 4 will be printed on the last page of the test booklet. You can detach it from the rest of the booklet to consult as you answer the questions.

7. As is usual for law school exams, you will identify yourselves on the test booklets and the Scan-Tron sheets using anonymous grading numbers (AGNs) instead of your names. You will use different AGNs for this test than you use for final exams. The Registrar’s Office will make these AGNs available to you beginning on March 18 (the Monday after Spring Break).

B. TO HELP YOU PREPARE

1. On the Course Page:

a. Bank of Old Multiple Choice Questions/Entire Fall 2007 Exam: Although as of February 28, we have not covered enough of the chapter for you to do very many of these, I have already posted these so you can see the kinds of questions I use. After the last class before Spring Break, I’ll indicate the questions in each document that you should be ready to answer and post the answers to those questions (including explanations of why particular multiple choice options were right or wrong). I’ll post the rest of the answers after class on Monday March 18.

b. EntireFall 2010 Exam: I’ll post the questions and the answers for this test after class on Monday March 18.

c. Chapter 4 Syllabus: I have posted the same version of the syllabus that will be in the test booklet, so that you can start working with it as you do practice questions.

d. Exam Instructions Page: After class on Monday March 18, I’ll post a copy of the front page of the test booklet listing the detailed exam instructions.

2. Opportunities to Ask Me Questions:

a. Office Hours: I never take appointments for office hours; just show up during the indicated times. My Pre-Exam Office Hours (both for this test and for the final) are communal. If I’m talking to another student when you arrive, quietly come in and listen, and I’ll shortly invite you to ask your questions as well. Particularly for this chapter, students often have the same questions, so this procedure prevents a lot of repetition. In the four days right before the test, I will hold office hours at the following times/locations:

  • Sunday March 17: 2:00-5:00 pm @ G280 (my office)
  • Monday March 18: 2:00-6:00 pm @ G280 (my office)
  • Tuesday March 19: 8:00-10:00 am & 1:30-3:30 pm @ G280 (my office)
  • Wednesday March 20: 3:00-8:00 pm @ B449 (Library Study Room)

b. E-Mail: I’ll respond to reasonable quantities of e-mail questions if you send them before 8:00 pm on the night before the test.

c. Availability Deadline: At 8:00 pm on Wednesday March 20, I will finish up any questions from students who are at office hours, then go and answer the e-mail questions that have come in before 8:00 pm. After that, you are on your own.

C. GRADING & FEEDBACK

1. Each question on the test is worth one-half a point, so the maximum score is 12 points. The final exam is worth 60 points, so this test is worth one-sixth of your final grade (before taking into account any participation bonuses).

2. A few days after the test, I will post on the course page the questions with answers and explanations in the same form you’ll see that I’ve used in prior years.

3. We will generate from your Scan-Tron sheet an individualized report for each of you that will tell you your score, show you the answers you selected for each question, and show you the correct answers for questions you got wrong. A few days after the test, you will be able to pick up this report from my assistant.
