Special Senses Poster

The class will be divided into 4 groups each covering a special sensory organ: eye, ear, olfactory epithelium, & taste buds.

MY GROUP IS COVERING: ______

MY RESPOSIBILITIES INCLUDE: ______

è  Poster is due by Thursday covering the following information; however, presentations will be done the day we present that information throughout this unit in lecture. So it may be a good idea to make cue cards to use on your presentation date. I will inform you the day prior when your presentation will be.

Requirements for Posters:

ALL POSTERS: will need a 2D visual structure of the major areas of your sensory organ that can be lifted and contain information of what that part specifically does. Then a presenter will need to explain how these work together to recognize that sense.

EYE POSTER: needs to have the following organs included: Ciliary body, Suspensory ligament, Cornea, Iris, Pupil, Aqueous Humor, Lens, Vitreous Humor, Optic Disk, Optic Nerve, Fovea Centralis, Retina, Choroid Tunic, & Sclera.

è  Be sure to explain what type of stimuli it responds to, what receptor allows this to occur, and give an overview of how that stimuli enters and moves through an eyeball.

EAR POSTER: needs to have the following organs included: Pinna (auricle), External Auditory Canal, Tympanic Membrane, Malleus, Incus, Stapes, Auditory Tube, Vestibule, Cochlea, Semicircular Canals, & Vestibulocochlear nerve. Be sure to bracket off and label: outer ear, middle ear, & inner ear.

è  Be sure to explain what type of stimuli it responds to, what receptor allows this to occur, and give an overview of how that stimuli enters and moves through an ear.

OLFACTORY (SMELL) POSTER: needs to have the following organs included: Olfactory Bulb, Olfactory Tract, Olfactory Mucosa, Olfactory Receptor, Supporting Cell, Olfactory Cilia (hairs), & Mucous Layer.

è  Be sure to explain what type of stimuli it responds to, what receptor allows this to occur, and give an overview of how that stimuli enters and moves through the nose.

TASTE/TONGUE POSTER: needs to have the following organs included: Fungiform Papillae, Taste Buds, Circumvallate Papilla, Gustatory Hairs, Sensory Nerve Fiber. Be sure to label off where each of the 4 basic taste sensations are found on the tongue.

è  Be sure to explain what type of stimuli it responds to, what receptor allows this to occur, and give an overview of how that stimuli enters and moves through the tongue.
