It is 50 years since the area to the south-west of Fendon Road out to Netherhall Farm (formerly a 65-acre field belonging to the farm) was built, and the planners should be looking 50 years ahead now. The proposed new Green Belt boundary is arbitrary and, if Cambridge is to expand in this direction, the natural boundary is Cherry Hinton Road. Accordingly, even though it is proposed that only a small part of that area should be released for development at present, the outline plans should embrace the entire area out to Cherry Hinton Road, even though the release of the rest of that area may be 50 years in the future. (Putting this another way, it would be best for the long-term development of this part of Cambridge if the entire area out to Cherry Hinton Road were released in one go, planned as a single development, and GB2 held back until the release of that much development land could be justified).
