Speakers and Special Occasions Committee

The purpose of the UTC Speakers & Special Events Committee is defined in the UTC

Faculty Handbook: “The Speakers and Special Events Committee is allocated funds from the activities fee for the purpose of paying honoraria, travel expenses, and other expenses for non-university related speakers or special events presented on campus for students and other members of the University community. All faculty and students are invited to submit a proposal for financial support for speakers, lectures, arts, and entertainment events sponsored by this Committee.”

For the academic year, the committee was allotted $25000.00 for disbursement among

various agencies and departments on campus to bring to campus programs and speakers

to address issues and topics relevant to the concerns of the sponsor organizations.

The Committee awarded $12,963.00 during the Fall semester round, even though several

of the proposals addressed events that would occur in the Spring. Eighteen awards were given

in the Fall ranging from $200 (Theatre and Speech) to $2,400 (Meacham Conference/English). Twelve proposals were fully funded, six were partially funded, and one was not funded.

During the Spring round of application, the Committee awarded $12,000.00 in grants.

Seventeen requests were full (4) or partially funded (13). Awards ranged from

$100(Theatre and Speech) to $1,700 (Counseling).
