A. Introduction (5 minutes)

Figure out what you are supposed to do.

Tasks:

Oldest group member: leads the discussion, makes sure everybody

joins in the discussion, asks questions to encourage those who are less talkative.

Youngest group-member: keeps track of time

Second oldest: keeps score when a member uses Dutch (turven)

one mark for every time a pupil starts off in Dutch

Second youngest: makes notes when necessary.(B6, D)

B. Warming-up (about 10 minutes):

1.  Where were you when you first heard about the attack in New York / Washington?

2.  What was your first reaction when you heard this?

3.  What could possibly be the terrorists’ motives?

4.  What advice would you give President Bush if you had the chance?

5.  React to the different types of advice in 4.

6.  Write down 10 words related specifically to the terrorist attack, if necessary explain the relation.

C. Pronunciation (about 10 minutes):

Get enough copies of the text / open letter from your teacher’s desk .

Take turns reading the letter to each other, one paragraph at the time.

Don’t read too fast, mind the pronunciation, listen carefully correct each other if necessary.

D. Summary (5 minutes)

Together summarize the general idea of this letter in no more than 4 sentences.

E. Evaluation (5 minutes)

How did your group work, what went well, what went wrong, was it useful practicing your fluency this way? Did the members perform their tasks well? How could you improve next time?
