EQUITY POLICY

  1. Policy Statement.

Spartans RUFC recognises the importance of offering equity, equal opportunity and fair treatment to all present and potential members.

The club will aim to ensure that all members of and visitors to the club irrespective of their age, gender, ability, race, religion, ethic origin, creed, colour, nationality, social status or sexual orientation have genuine and equal opportunity to take part in the game of Rugby Union and in all club roles. This includes as a: - player, coach, committee member, referee, team manager, or spectator.

It is the aim of Spartans RUFC not to disadvantage any individual by imposing any conditions or requirements which can not be justified. Failure to comply with the above will result in action been taken against the guilty party.

Advice and training will be sought or given to all that may require further knowledge.

Direct discrimination is defines as treating a person less favourably than others are or would be in the same or similar situation.

Indirect discrimination occurs when a requirement or condition is applied which, whether intentional or not, adversely affects a considerably larger proportion of people of one race, sex, or marital status than another that can not be justified on grounds other than race, sex or marital status.

  1. Objectives.

Spartans RUFC has the following objectives:-

To adopt a planned approach to eliminating perceived barriers which discriminate against particular groups.

To ensure that no member, potential member, or visitor to the club receives less favourable treatment on the grounds listed in the policy Statement above.

To give clear guidance to members on the commitment to equal opportunities.

To ensure that all those who participate in Rugby Union in way receive fair and equitable treatment.

  1. Implementation

Spartans RUFC will seek to promote equity and equality through:-

The monitoring of practices and procedures within the club.

A regular review of existing club rules to ensure that they do not prevent the participation of groups who may suffer discrimination.

The provision training or advice for key members or volunteers to raise awareness of the clubs Equality Policy.

  1. Monitoring

The club committee will monitor and review the selection criteria and procedure to ensure that individuals are selected purely on the basis of their skills and ability.

The club committee will be responsible for providing members and potential members and visitors with information regarding the policy and its application and impact.

Spartans RUFC will work with local schools and other organisations that may provide players to ensure that no potential players are excluded through any kind of discrimination.

  1. Exemptions

Spartans RUFC may limit selection to various sides on order to ensure safe and equal competition. (i.e. U12s or 13s etc.)

  1. Responsibilities

Spartans RUFC expects that all those representing the club will adhere to the policy.

Action may be taken against any member or visitor who practices any form of discrimination.

The club is situated by the junction of the A446 & Coppice Lane, ¼ mile on the Coleshill side of the A453 at Bassett’s Pole
